Hi,
Is it normal for a dog to belch after she has eaten food or drank water or even eaten snow for that matter?? This is something that butters does and they are fairly loud belches. I'm wondering if getting a set of raised food and water bowls would make a difference in her case. Any suggestions Jaye |

Belching is normal.. well, I believe it is.. cause all 3 of mine do it! LOL
Their air doesn't always come out of the attic though too, if you know what I mean Mine do it after they've eaten, or drank.. |

Must be a dog thing, cause Fiona does it all the time, both ways. LOL And she always comes over to me to do it and then just walks away as though nothing happened.

Ohhhh the belching, with 10 bullies in the house I can sure relate to that! lol Just let me know when we start talking those nasty doggy farts and I'll ask if someone would like to contribute to my "Sourmug mom needs stock in Glad" fund.
Your right though, typically belching does mean that your dog is swallowing air when they eat or drink and raising food and water bowls can help. Normally the extra air isn't a big deal but with some breeds such as mine there is a thought that it may help contribute to bloat. |

Lyric does it and he does it from both ends. Sometimes he stretches, sticking his rear up in the air and wooooof....out comes a big one. It's good though though that he gets it out instead of having it trapped. So, I don't tell him how rude he is. I don't notice it much in the other dogs.

All of my girls belch too. After they are done eating or when they drink alot of water. They pretty much have a routine it goes, Copper, Cora and Sable. I should video tape it sometime
. Hey sometimes I join them, Heehee. I know its not lady like but I figure if I can't be like them (at times) I can act like them . |

Crossfire buldogs
I notice you mention raised food bowl as a way to prevent the bloat. I believed this to be the best way. Then I found there has been for some time a difference of opinion on this one. I know number of people <with dogs susceptible>who actually feed flat only <even the dish itself> for this very reason. Asking why, I was referred to results of a survey done about 3 years ago, which concluded that 10% increase of incidence of bloat was observed in dogs raised fed compared to dogs flat fed. I can not substantiate this as my puter crashed last year and I lost the link. Cant recall any more details or how it was conducted. Did you hear about it? As the opinions run exact opposite I dont know what to think, so I simply curb any exercise within 1/2 hour plus either way and watch the water intake. |

Yes, I've read that too. I have a deep chested kind of dog, a Doberman and they are quite prone to it. I feed on the floor usually. Sometimes if my other dogs are around I'll set it on a chair so they don't get it. Normally I seperate them to eat, but they usually finish and Lyric doesn't even want his yet, so I let them out of their rooms and then later Lyric decides he's hungry. LOL. Anyhow, from what I read, (and I'm paranoid) it's best to wait for 2 hours after they eat to let them run hard and 1 hour before they eat they shouldn't run hard. I think it's more natural for a dog to eat off the ground but of course some dogs aren't very "natural" ....these long necks on the Dobes, the very deep chests etc. But yes, I'm inclined to put more care in the food and exercise connection and gulping food/air....It's probably good to split up their meals. So, when Lyric isn't hungry for breakfast, I don't make him wait till afternoon if he decides he's hungry 2 hours later. I'll give it to him. I don't want him getting so hungry that he gulps it. So, some might say it's catering to him but so be it. I don't mind. He's just not a big obsessive eater like my Chi mix and my Lab. They'll eat anytime, any amount and anything they can get their hands on.

kaiyah normally has it coming from both ends. Especially after hes eaten. but he lays down to eat (maybe hes lazy) so I dont think raised dishes would help. lol. he stinks too!! he sometimes comes right to us and hell fart or burp right at us.
