Watery eye and and sore on the leg?
I let Rose in the house today and I'm glad I did! She hopped up into a chair with me (Sadie was being crated) and I noticed that her right eye had lots of green goop at the corner. I cleared it off and upon further inspection, her right eye seemed to be kind of "houndy" in apperence compared to her other eye. It reminded my of a mild case of how a Basset Hounds eyes droop. It looked kind of red and water, not at all like her other eye.
Does anything sound overly wrong with it, or is it just a minor irritation that should go away in a few days? If it persists we're going to take her to the vet, but I'd thought I'd ask and see if it needed anything immediate. I had let Sadie out of her crate and she was "playing" with Rose, (well, trying to. Rose didn't want to and was disciplining her quite nicely [a quick grab and bite on the nose] but it seemed like when Rose wasn't being imposing, Sadie would just get more roused up) but then Rose started getting even more annoyed so I crated Sadie again. I then noticed that Rose was licking her leg and I thought, "Great, I hope Sadie didn't bite her" and I checked her leg and there was a sore on it! It is about the size of an enlongated dime (like if a dime could be put through a squishing machine like the pennies go through if you want a flat copper thing with an imprint on it) and doesn't look infected. It seems raw (pink) in spots were it must have been irritated from Rose licking it, but it doesn't look bad. Hopefully it won't get worse, but is there anything we can put on it to help it heal? I'm normally pretty good about checking the dogs over for thorns in their pads, ticks, burs, and stuff like that, but apparently I've been slacking! I then gave her a complete physical (and Blackie one too), but nothing else was wrong, thank goodness. |

If you have any distilled water, you could wash her eye out every couple of hours for awhile. Keep and eye on that sore leg too. Usually them licking their sores heals them nicely.

the eye sounds like a mild eye infection, or it could be conjunctivitis. If it is conjunctivitis, or pink eye, it is highly contagious, so wash your hands. You can usually pick up some eye antibiotic at the vet for about $5. I can call, describe the problem and I can just pick up the meds without an office appt.
I use colloidal silver on all skin issues, scrapes, cuts, bruises, rashes, etc. You can pick it up at a health food store (Can be used on humans and animals). It's just silver distilled in water, but is very effective against infection. |

I agree with Novel, if it is green discharge it is definitely an infection and should be looked at by the vet and by all means keep the eye clean using a soft cloth(rag) and wash the rags often not infect the other eye. Poor thing, I always feel so sorry for them because they can't tell us when things are bothering them. Keep us posted, okay?

She's still doing fine. Her eye isn't a lot better, but it isn't worse either. I don't think it is pink eye, seeing as how Blackie's eyes are still fine. I've been keeping an eye on the sore and it looks about the same. It hasn't been infected, which I'm greatful for. I'll check on her eye and everything again tonight, but when I saw her last (I've been out of the house all day) it didn't look bad at all.
Thanks for the advice and I'll see if we have any of that stuff here. I know we have something like it... |

Glad that she is maintaining... It's possible it was an allergy, or just a short lived infection that she fought off on her own. But if she does have an eye infection, left untreated, in time, it can cause damage to her vision and the eye itself.
Keep up updated! |
