Question any ideas

my pitbull/lab mix has torn the too ligaments in his back legs. The many specialists that we have taken him to says that he could have surgury, but that is probably will not take, i would hate to put him through that becuase the recovery time is 8 weeks for each leg. I am currently giving him medication, but it only helps some of the time for pain. sometimes he does great but sometimes he has to crawl on the floor. any suggestions

Oh poor baby!!! I am surprised that they don't think the surgery will work.

I wish I had some suggestions, but others on this site are much more knowledgeable then me.

How old is your dog?

We just got through dog-sitting a chocolate lab for a week. She is 8 yrs old, and has had acl surgeries on her back legs. For a dog, they are called tpl or something like that, but it is that ligament. Shelby is doing fine with the walking and exercise. She can't run real fast, but she loves to try keeping up with my springer spaniel.

why wouldn't the surgery work? maybe he could be referred to a specialist?

a girl i work with had both cruciates repaired on her rescued lab. the dog was going to be put down because she was so fat and injured and couldn't walk well. she's since lost 30 pounds and gets around just fine.
