cause of ear yeast infection??
so lucy has some ear problems- on her latest trip to the vet, so now she is on an ear cleaning solution daily & then otomax cream for a couple of weeks. why do they get these? she's only 4 months as of yesterday.. vet said could be food allergies but seems young, or just their immune system at this age, see what happens in 2 weeks. hopefully it goes away..

Dogs with flappy ears are more susceptible to getting them. typical causes are moisture in the ear/no air circulation and food/environmental allergies. Does she have any red itchy spots elsewhere on her?
If lucy is asleep can you gently fold her ears back? If not, I've seen an item that looks kinda like a sock that fits over their heads and keeps their ears back to aid air circ- Really strange looking thing ![]() In the future keep them clean but don't overdo it. |

Giant Schnauzers
|
If its the pup in your avatar, its probably from her floppy ears. How often is she around/in the water? With my Giant Schnauzers, since I don't crop the ears, about once a week I take a cotton ball with a bit of rubbing alcohol and swab out their ears.
The cleaning solution your vet gave is good stuff, and obviously gentle enough for daily use. Usually the infection is from excess moisture in the ears, whether it be from rain, bath, swimming, etc. Just make sure that after this clears up, keep her ears dry inside. |

It could be a food allergy, our gsd had chronic ear infections for years. We would treat them, clean them religously, still they always came back. She had a horrible wax problem, it was constant. Recently I switched her food to canidae, and she hasn't had one since. Her ears are staying clean, no wax like before. I'm not sure what it was in the food, but she hasn't had any ear problems since.

The floppy ears, the excess hair in the ears and the diet all play a major part in a dog having infections. Keep the excess hair pulled out, always use a drying solution to clean out the ears especially after a bath or swim, and put the dog on either real food or a premium dog food that does not contain fillers and by-products. INNOVA is an excellent one.
