Fatty cysts

My dog has a couple of lumps that were biopsied and showed they were harmless lumps (fatty cysts) Do they develop in overweight dogs only, or can they also appear in thin dogs? Does anyone know how to prevent these ones from getting larger, or how to prevent new ones from forming. She has lost weight since, but the lumps are still there.

Hi Gracie dont worry to much.
My Emma had a fatty lump from when she was a puppy till she died at the ripe old age of 19.
As long as you have had them checked. Emma wasnt overweight so I dont think it is just plump dogs
Do you feed her dry food?? I was told this can cause fatty lumps in some dogs

Thanks for the reply. Yes, for the most part she is on dry food. Once in awhile I will add some chicken or lean beef to her food, but she doesn't get this daily.

My daughter's 20 year old kitty has had one since she was about 4 years old. Since the vet has checked it I wouldn't worry!

My dog has at least 15-20 lumps on him and he is 11 years old. I've had 2 biopsied and they were both just fatty lumps. He is on dry dog food too. I have heard there is a link between thyroidism and lumps. My dog has just gone on thyroid medication in the last year and his coat is improving a lot! Good luck!
