Unhappy Tysa off to the vet.

A few days ago Tysa got a small scrape on her paw when she was outside. It was just above the pad beside the nail. I was keeping it clean using rubbing alcohol on it, and it appeared to be doing ok.
I checked her out this morning, and overnight it has gotten much worse. Its more than doubled in size, and swollen, the nail appears to feel a bit loose, and seems to be infected. So I called my vet and they are going to squeaze her in this afternoon (I didn't want to see the e-vet). I am so worried, I hope she doesn't have to have the nail pulled. I was soo shocked that it changed so much just overnight like that after it looked like it was healing. Here's hoping she'll be all fixed up soon!

Hopefully it's an easy fix and she'll be better soon!

Thanks you guys!

Well, we're back from the vet, and she has an infection. So she's all bandaged up with antibiotic creme in there to draw out the puss, and with oral antibiotics as well. The vet said it is rare, but if it gets worse, we have to do some tests to find out what else we can try, but worst case, she'll need the toe amputated. Jeez I sure hope this works. Poor gal.

I'll send a little prayer that she wont have to have surgery. Did the Vet. have any idea what it could be?

The vet said it appeared to be a bacterial infection, likely from dirt or something getting into the cut/scrape. Even with me cleaning it, it got infected. It's pretty swollen (the toe), and full of puss. He thinks the medication should do the trick, and he's seen infections like it much worse that healed ok as well. It all depends on how well the antibiotics work, and if she is attempting to get the bandage off or not. The less she plays with it the better. So far she hasn't bothered with it, walking a bit funny of course, but not trying to get it off. So that at least is a good sign. The bandage needs to stay on for at least 3 days for the cream to really help, but if she can manage 4-5 days that would be better. The big tale will tell when the bandage is removed, and hopefully she doesn't get any other symptoms that something else might be wrong. Gotta keep a close eye on her, and check her temperature doesn't change too much. Plenty of water and that she is eating ok.
I feel so bad for her. Like she doesn't have enough to deal with right now.

Poor Tysa! I sure hope the meds kick in quickly and that she heals without incident. Just wondering is she is a little run down from the whelp and nursing all the puppies. We moms tend to give it our all when our kids are concerned, right Tysa!
