Anal Issues
Hi everybody! I am new here (1st post). I looked through old posts and did not see anything with a similar problem. My dog, Jolie, is a 3 year old Treeing Walker Coonhound rescue. Lately she has been leaving "kisses" of feces anywhere she sits. She had her anal sacs expressed a couple of weeks ago and I am thinking it started soon thereafter. We have been using wipes to try to keep her clean, but even if we wipe her right before bed, we still find marks in the morning. We give her Metamucil with her evening meal to keep her stools firm, which has worked fairly well. Although there have been some softer lately. I hate to suddenly kick her off all the furniture as she is used to her evening sofa snuggle, seems kinda mean to deprive her. Any ideas?

It sounds like she has lost some bowel control, and its not necessarily a stool problem, but a muscle control problem. When she had her glands expressed, she could have received some damage to the anus.
I would have her seen by a vet, as it could be a tear in the rectum, and she could very easily develop a very nasty infection. |
