Thirsty?

Hello,
Mandi has been drinking more water than usuall the past two days. Usually I only fill her bowl up once a day, and I am usually only topping it off. Yesterday, I filled her water up THREE times!!! Is this something I should be worried about, or should I just wait and see what happens? The day before yesterday, she didn't poop either, would that have something to do with it?

Thanks!!
SAM

Increased water intake can be a sign of many problems in dogs, including diabetes.
I take it Mandi has been pooping again on schedule. She may have just been warmer. My guys increase their water intake depending upon the weather or their activity level.
Keep monitoring her water intake, and have her see the vet if you are still concerned or if it continues.

Mine are drinking more water now than they did all summer. I think it's because of the dry winter weather. I'm the same way. Cold weather makes me very thirsty too.
I would have the Vet. check her out though.

I agree with Novel. This is one sign I noticed with Sarge before he was diagnosed with renal failure.

Has it been warmer than usual? My guys drink more water if it's really hot, or if we end up having a cold spurt followed by very warm weather a day or two after. I have to fill up our 4 gallon water jug 2-3 times during the summer or warm weather. Lately it's been cooler, so we only have to fill it up once.

Actually now that you mention it, it went from a week of 50 degree weather to 71 (today) so that may be the problem too. I am going to the horse farm this weekend so it will be harder to tell how much she is drinking, but I will try. Thanks!!

If you aren't sure your safest bet is taking her to the vet...then you won't be worried.

I agree with Shadowkins. Yes, warm weather can cause an increase in water intake but you also mentioned that she hadn't had a bowel movement. Increased water intake like your describing can be a sign of a health issue and I would at least call your vet for his or her professional opinion.

I'd have your vet do a blood test as well. Increased water intake can be a sign of thyroid issues or diabetes.
