Snotty boy :)
Hi there. We have a 17 (almost 18!
) year old springer spaniel, who has had problems with chronic congestion for awhile now. We've switched his food a couple times, doesn't seem to make a difference (however, we did NOT switch to deliberately eliminate his congestion, so we weren't looking for specific hypoallergenic formulas or anything). I was wondering if anyone had any advice about how to help him with this? he ALWAYS has snotty discharge and sneezes it along the wall *blech*. Part of it they say is related to the fact that he had laryngoparalysis and has had surgery to hold his little "food flap" back permanently, which leaves him somewhat vulnerable to colds, germs, etc. I'm looking for things like herbal supplements that i could give him with his food to work as a decongestant, or just another food altogether that people with similar problems have had success with? any help would be appreciated! my walls will love you ![]() adryan |

We've considered a raw diet, it's something i'd really like to do at some point, but at this point we just don't have the capability. We live in a tiny place, and we don't have enough room for an extra freezer. Eventually i would like to get our dogs on it, we'll be moving (hopefully to a house) next summer/fall, and i'm hoping with the move and my husband starting to practice law, we'll have the time and money to invest in it. My great dane's breeder did it for years and has nothing bad to say about it (other than the necessity of having a reliable source available to you that you trust).
For now though, i know there are some good quality dog foods out there, i just need to find one that will work for our boy Charlie Thanks!adryan |

Solid Gold makes some really good formulas. Some are fish, bison, or others. One formula is completely without graines, and others only have certain grains. I think none of them have corn at all.
I would for sure check that out. I also knows dogs can have benedryl for allergies and probably 1-2 tablets per day would fix the problem for your dog. check with your vet to determine the proper dosage. Also, if you are interested in feeding raw. PM our user Novel. She feeds raw and I think she rarely freezes it. I've seen her feed things like tuna out of a can, chicken, hamburger, and I saw her with a tub of chicken livers once too. So I don't think space is really needed as long as a store is fairly close. but again, as far as food....I've been really impressed with Solid gold and know many trainers, breeders, and owners who love it. |

Check with your vet first but maybe PetAlive Sinu-Rite would do the trick....it's a holistic / natural.
