Greenies, the new formula

A while back there was an advertisement regarding the change in the Greenie formula. They stated that the new formula was made up with digestable proteins rather than gluten or some such materials. We all love our dogs and don't want to contribute in any way to endangering them with an inferior product so I bought one (just 1) of the new formula greenies, broke it in half and placed it in a glass of warm water. Within the first 30 minutes it changed color from green to white and I was able to scale off the first layer of the greenie. After three hours in the same water it was about 1/2 disolved. So I would say that their claim that it is is soluable is true. I have resumed feeding Greenies (the new formula) to my dog and will continue to do so until I receive evidence to the contrary.

A scientist at heart. That's good. I've never fed greenies and probably won't, still trying to get Kuchi to get used to raw bones.

I won't feed greenies as I don't think they are healthy for dogs. I make my own dog treats, this way I know they are safe as well as nutritional.

I had never purchased them before all the controversy so I think I will just stay clear of them unless I find out they do more then help keep teeth clean. Glad to see your decided to test this for yourself. I would consider mixing in some vinegar or other acidic substance to see just what happened.

I ordered a free sample of their new formula, but I never got my free sample last time, so I'm not holding my breath. I find them too expensive to feed regularly, but if I find a good deal I'm not opposed to buying them (haven't bought them regardless since hearing the controversy, but am willing to try them again if they're the right price ). Thanks for your post, Sheltie!

Thanks for the posting of your findings . I have been wondering about this "new" formula myself but probably would have never thought about testing it. I fed Chloe Greenies as a treat every week until I heard the bad news. After that I decided I wouldn't spend another dime with a company that wouldn't take responsibility for the loss of a dog's life. If they really made the effort to make them safe, I may consider getting a few every now and then. I like to change her treats to give her a little variety. It's funny how excited she gets when I change her chewies, I usually only rotate between Knee caps and bully sticks but when I pull out a new one it's like her first one ever!
