Stomache issues
Ok, I started Harley on raw awhile ago, mixing half kibble half raw. Well this morning I gave Harley a nice meaty knuckle bone. When I got in, all gone, no water left. Went to feed my daughter, he kept pestering me, thought he wanted food. Well I was wrong. He had weird color liquid poop in my bathroom, and peed. He never does this unless really sick. Put my daughter to bed, took him out again. Explosive diareah, Weird yellow color. If it is not meat that does this, is it possible he is having a reaction to the actual bone.....Yes he does eat the bone. |

I agree. I'd take him to the vet to have him checked. It's possible that a piece of the bone may be stuck and causing this. Then again, I've never fed raw, but if you say pottying in the house isn't a usual unless he's really sick, then I would be to the vet ASAP.
Hope it's nothing serious, and hope he feels better! |

Lots of dogs can't tolerate a mix of raw and kibble esp not in the same meal or on the same day. If you are going to switch to raw feeding I would fast the dog for a day and then feed raw. Mixing is asking for trouble IMHO.
I would be careful feeding recreational bones that your dog is able to actually consume. You should watch and see what size of chunks he's able to get off. Raw fed dogs do need to eat lots of raw meaty consumable bones but those should be easy to chew and digest things like chicken necks/backs/wings etc not weight bearing beef bones- those should be for chewing not eating. Lots of dogs also get diarrhea from a fatty bone or from the marrow inside a shank bone esp if it's not what they are used to. You might need to supervise your dog eating knuckly bones and take them a way before they start to splinter off chunks. |

I feed raw to my girls but I always watch how much bone they have.
raw chicken bones are good and I agree with sammy about fatty bone and marrow Check with the vet as its better safe than sorry |

Ok, thanks for the insight with the beef bones. I have ben feeding raw and kibble for a couple months, no problems....it seemed to be with the bone..I am so paranoid about chicken bones....So I guess I will stick to doing what he is used to...Thank you

Why are you worried about chicken bones????
they are much softer and easier to chew and naturally if they are given raw they wont cause any harm unless the dog gulps them down and chokes. I actually ALWAYS watch my dogs while they eat bones. Another thing I buy is minced up chicken carcasses. Great for the dog and safe for our anxiety levels ![]() |
