potty trouble

Hi! Chloe has started to have some type of problem urinating. I have an appointment scheduled for her to go to the vet on Monday, but I like to ask here first to both get an idea of what might be wrong and find out if it might need imediate attention. I noticed on Monday that Chloe did not urinate when she went out in the morning on Monday. She is on a very consistant schedule so it was strange. I took her out a total of 3 times in one hour, finally after the third try she went. After she went she turned around and sniffed the spot where she went. She never does that but I figured all the snow had melted recently so maybe she was checking out the smell on the grass. She is eating about a 1/4 cup less than usual, and is drinking her usual amount. She hasn't vomited and seems in high spirits so I'm not sure what's going on. I was thinking perhaps a urinary tract infection, However she is on Nutro Natural Choice lamb and rice and even though it's dry food I'm a little concerned.

Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate any advise on this! I will get her in ASAP to the vet if this could be a serious issue.

Thanks in Advance!

Lindsey

If it is an infection, you should not wait until Monday. Monday is a long ways away for a dog with a possible urinary tract infection. If she is truly having trouble urinating, get her to the vet before the weekend.

I would call the vet back and see if they could get her in sooner. Hopefully, it is just an infection and the sooner she gets on an antibiotic the better.

That is one thing that I like about my vet. He does not take appointment...it's on a first come first serve basis. So if they are having a problem I never have to wait for an appointment.

Hope that she is all better soon.

Thanks so much for the quick replies and kind words. I am all out of personal and vacation time at work but have mondays off so that is why I scheduled it for then. I really appreciate the advise, and becuase of it have moved her appointment to tomorrow morning. I would never take any chances and feel just aweful if my little girl had to go the whole weekend in any kind of pain.

Thanks so much again!!

Lindsey

I agree with the others. It sounds like a urinary tract infection. Her doing just a couple little things that are out of the ordinary would have me concerned (just as you are! good catch, it's great to be in tune with them).

Best wishes. Let us know how it goes and what it is.

I would also take some of her food in, just in case. Even though its not on the list, there might be something else going on with the food. I know Nutro is generally a good company, but ya just never know. If you can, also get a urine sample. Its hard with girls, but if you PM me I can tell you an easier way to do it.

Hi we are back! I got a sample of her urine this morning, (thanks for offering tips BDL) it was actually easier than I thought it would be. She squatted and I ran over with my little cup. She gave me the strangest look as if to say "hey mom what the heck are you doing!?"But it worked. I took that in and they found a high level of crystals. They gave her some "sleepy treats" as the vet says and did an ultrasound, inserted a catheter into her bladder to expand it with air, and x-rays becuase the type of crystals they found were those associated with bladder stones. She does not have stones, and is now on antibiotics and a prescription hills food. I'm so glad I didn't wait to take her in, the vet said her urine feels like sand when she goes and it's very painful. She also said that judging by the high amount of crystals there would likley be stones forming within the next week to two if left untreated. So all is well for now, She is resting after her long visit with Dr. Brodie . Thank you all for the advise and keeping us in your thoughts.

Lindsey

It's good to hear that they found out what is going on. I'm sure her medicines will have her feeling better soon. She is such a cutie!
