whips and spay!
ugh! I just got home from Florida on tuesday night...and my mom tell me, oh by the way, both girls have had diareaha not massive raging diarreah, just super soft stool for a few days. But she gave them chicken and rice, and it was going away. Well, paranoid, freakish me begin to think the worst....contaminated food (they were kennelled for a few 3 days a couple weeks ago. SOO yesterday morning I got stool samples from the both of them and took it to the vet. it's whipworms...great, the most impossible thing to get rid of. the vet said, most likely the ground is infested with eggs so it will probably have to be a life long preventative thing with both of them on InterCeptor....(just one more reason to move to florida is what I'm thinking...
) Does anyone know of a better way to treat these nasty buggers? Or has anyone used Interceptor? I'm not keen on giving them meds all the time. ANYWAY...I was concerned that it would postpone Trixie's spay...(which is right now as i'm typing this!!!) but they said she'd be fine. I also had both girls tested for heartworm this morning. I'll find out the results from that when I pick my little baby up around 6pm. I'm not worried about the spay really. They do laser up at my vet so there is hardly an incision and none of our pets ever had a problem. (both cats and Shelby were spayed there) But there is still a little nervousness in the back of my head. So Trixie will be groggy tonight for sure, but It's going to b very tuff to keep her out of the fields and stuff seeing how it's supposed to be in the 70's here this weekend! ![]() |

Well, I'm not sure moving to Florida will alleviate whip concerns...the South is pretty much infested w/parasites like whips all over the place. Once you know you probably have them in your yard - or wherever your dog's primary potty or play place is - your best bet to prevent them is Interceptor, as Ivermectin-based preventatives won't prevent whips. It's fairly likely your dog's picked them up at the kennel if they were turned out to a common area.
Be sure you pick up all their poo in the yard ASAP to prevent any (further) infestation. Keeping my fingers crossed for an uneventful spay! |

thanks for the advice! They recommended Incerceptor too. I picked up a lot of poopy this morning, but there's still some more....they like to poop out in the posture in front of the house where the grass is a little taller, so that'll be a hunting expedition.
I'm looking for all the reasons possible to move there....I worked out a 1 year plan to amke it possible....ONE YEAR AND I"LL BE THERE!!! I absolutely hate the pennsylvania winters and only want to deal with one more. 95 with 100% humidity is my kind of weather babY! |
