Jesse's latest vet visit

I haven't posted about this before now because it's been so stressful for me. But Jesse has not been well the last few days and considering the health problems he already has, that's saying a lot.
I took him to the vet today and she's just as worried about him as I am. He's lost weight, his temperature is down and his heart rate is up. He also has a lot of fluid in his lungs but that's due to not being given a diuretic for a few days. The reason he didn't get this medication is because he stopped eating on Friday and wouldn't drink any water either. Had I given him the diuretic he would have been even more dehydrated (don't worry...I contacted the vet before doing this). I had to force feed water to him with a syringe and have been giving him a suppliment and vitamins to make sure he doesn't miss out on anything vital during this period.
Thankyou Calgal for sending me the Nutri-Cal and Vitamins...they have literally been a life saver. I think I would have lost him friday night if it wasn't for them

The vet has given him two injections tonight. A diuretic and something to help the blood flow more easily to his heart. I also gave him oxygen for 10mins while I was there (they had an emergency so the nurse couldn't do it herself).
He's very perky and active tonight, because of the drugs and oxygen. So that's a relief, but he's going straight back to the vet in the morning. The nurse is even going to pick him up on her way to work.
They didn't want to leave him there overnight as the vet couldn't be there with him all night tonight.

Please keep Jesse in your thoughts. I hope this is just another "scare" and not something more serious. But those of you who know him, know how tough he is and how he has bounced back before. I hope it happens again and he's grumbling his heart out to me in no time.

Cass.

Cass I am so sorry the little fella is not doing so great - I'm almost in tears just reading about it so I can't even begin to imagine how stressed you must be right now.

River and I are sending many, many positive thoughts to Jesse and crossing everything that he gets through this.

Thankyou both so much. I'm so freaked out by this, he just seems much worse than he's ever been. His breathing is very laboured (and loud, I was on voice chat with Justin and he could hear him ), he's extremely lethargic (tonight is the exception) and his heart is beating so loudly you can actually hear it, which is frightening (to put it mildly).
He did eat on Sunday, which is a relief but today...nothing. I'll keep you all updated but he'll be at the vets tomorrow so I won't know anything after tomorrow morning until she calls me or I pick him up.

Cass.

I really hope Jesse pulls through this time! We definitely know what a fighter he is... Poor little guy has been through a tough time lately. I'll be thinking of you and Jesse.

I know exactly how your feeling since my Delsi is on a down hill slide herself, but she doesn't have any medical issues, just her tiny body giving up.
Jesse is such a wonderful little boy who has been so strong and brave so far, and I can't help thinking he's trying to stay alive for your sake. They do know when we can't let them go. Maybe that will give him reason to continue his fight, but there will come a time where it's too hard of a battle for him.
Cass, if you need anymore Nutri-Cal, I have a new tube of the senior I can send to you. I bought two of them, and haven't had to use any yet.
Prayers will go out to you and Jesse.

Oh, Cass, hang in there. I hope that he pulls through ok, and you will both be in my prayers. I know how tough it is to see your baby go through a medical problem that could become fatal...I cried for three straight days when Rose was in the EVet.

Just remember we are all here for you if you need anything.

Thankyou all so much. Jesse's doing really well this morning. The vet even said that he could (assuming he remains stable) stay with me until Thursday when we have another appointment.
He was active this morning (not quite his usual self though) and ate all his breakfast, which was a great relief to me. He's still having the Nutri-Cal (Calgal..I've still got some left and I have a tube of the Aussie version as well so I dont' need any more just now. But thankyou so much for the offer ) and vitamins because he needs that extra bit of help.
He even had a wander around the yard a couple of times this morning, which he hasn't done for a few days, so that's a plus.
He seems to still have a bit of fluid on the lungs because his nose was a bit dribbly this morning and his vet said that if he starts sneezing out more fluid and/or gets lethargic again I'm to call her straight away. So he's not out of the woods just yet. She's concerned that if he goes down hill it will be fast.

I've thought about this being 'his time'. It scares me and upsets me but I'm prepared for it. I have made up my mind about it, if he gets to a point where he's very uncomfortable and there really isn't anything that can be done to improve him beyond injections and more drugs...I'm going to let him go. I couldn't bear to go through that myself so I'm not going make him go through it for my own selfish needs. I love him too much to describe. He's my boy.

But, his time hasn't come yet (at least not today). He's a stubborn old man after all.

And if he knew how much love there was for him all over the world, he'd live forever.

Cass.
