I have a 10 week old Akita puppy. Last night the puppy came in from outside and was acting completely normal. I went upstairs to get her toy and I heard her yelp. When I got back to her she was favoring her leg. I examined her to see if anything was noticeable but found nothing. When she tried to put weight on it she would cry and fall over to her side. I moved a way from her a few steps and called for her to come and when she tried the same thing happened, she cried when she tried to put weight on the leg and would stumble over to her one side. I took her immediately to the vet and the vet diagnosed her with "puppy drama". By the time we got there she seemed fine, no pain and walking...has anyone ever heard of this type of thing? Based on her behavior I'm not overly comfortable just brushing it off as a dramatic puppy...

If you're in any way unsure about what your vet has said seek a second opinion.
However dogs are VERY smart and if the pup found it got loads of attention from you for limping it may have possibly played it up a bit. The BF had a GSD as their family dog and whenever it got in trouble it'd start limping around - only thing was it'd forget what foot it started on so it was pretty obvious he was "playing" for sympathy!!! River also tried a similar thing after he got neutered - he was limping around the next morning until my sister and nephew came over - surprise, surprise the limping stopped straight away!!! I'd personally be keeping a careful watch on your pup though and would probably also get another opinion on it simply for my own peace of mind. |

A friends dog did this one time. We thought it was his stomache area, but he was favoring a leg and falling over just like your pup. They took him in thinking that he had eaten something wrong. They didn't find anything either. They suggested a chicken and rice diet for a couple of days and little activity--but I think they were just guessing..not sure it really helped
If the incident was anything like my friends puppy, she will be fine ![]() |

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback. I talked to a couple of people at work and I think they think I'm crazy! Good to know this has happened to other people. I wouldn't put anything past this little pup...so I'll definately keep an eye on her!
