Puppy Tooth Extraction

My vet told me that I needed to have my 10 wk. old puppies bottom canine teeth extracted because they could cause problems with her bite. At first I was flipped out because she seemed like I needed to have it done immediately and it was going to cost about $800...but as I talk to people I get mixed reactions, mostly leaning towards not having it done because they are baby teeth and will fall out anyway. Anyone had this issue or can offer advice?

No way would I have that done. At 10 weeks those baby teeth aren't even all the way in yet. And yes, they will fall out when the adult teeth come in.
I'd be seeking out a new vet.

I'd definitely seek another opinion too. A littermate to one of my dogs had a canine removed at about 17 weeks and I shuddered at that, as I felt it was unnecessary.

There are reasons that it *Should* be done, but they are very far and few inbetween. In my opinion it is usually a vet trying to make an easy load of cash. And it seems to be a surgery growing in popularity. Since I don't think the dogs have changed much... to me it's a case of greed.

Again, I haven't seen your pups mouth, so it may very well be necessary, but before forking over that kind of money, I would seek out another opinion, maybe even that of a vet specializing in dentistry.

I would be very hesitant, because of the fact she is so young, and they will fall out in a few months, and anesthesia is nothing to fool around with, especially for a young pup....
