contamination

Dr. Russell continues:

It is clear that the only reason this widespread poisoning of the pet and human food supply has come to light has been the sharp increase in kidney and liver disease in pets beginning in the Fall of 2006. Apparently then the adulteration was so great in a few shiploads of glutens and protein concentrates that tens of thousands of pets went from assymptomatic or chronically ill to acutely ill and fatally compromised.

Interestingly, veterinarians and MDs have long operated on the observation that there is a "normal" background level of diseases that, when a spike in the numbers of a particular illness arises, indicates a poisoning or infectious disease event. Epidemiologists must now consider that the "background level" is in fact inflated by the long term poisoning of the food supply!

The interaction between infectious disease, genetic tendency towards disease and chronic poisoning is difficult to tease out. So, for my colleagues who attempt to trace the genetics of disease, the long term poisoning of the pet population calls into question most, maybe all previous hypotheses concerning the heredity of presumed genetic diseases in study animals (humans, dogs, cats and even rodents). Prediction: the ramifications of long-term food poisoning will soon be felt throughout the fields of the genetics of disease, both human and non-human, for years to come.

The prestigious Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has called upon Commissioner von Eschenbach of the FDA to ban Chinese gluten imports until testing is in place (http://cspinet.org/new/pdf/chinese_grain_imports.pdf). The FDA has not replied.

Meanwhile, South Africa has taken quick action to stop toxic Chinese imports bound for pet products. The U.S. has done nothing:

linnie,
I am glad you posted this. I am shocked dailey that so many people are so blase' about this whole thing - even those without pets need to take notice. The effects could be so long reaching. I wonder every day if the food I am feeding myself, my pets, and my son is safe. So sad.
