Goat milk for orphaned pups?

Hello Everyone!

My mother dog died during childbirth and I was told the best thing for the puppies was chilled goat milk. Has anyone heard of this?

Don't use goat milk... it's bad for the puppies. This gives you directions on how and what to feed them:

Goat Milk for pups

Thank you. A member PM'd me and recommended an electrolyte drink like Pedialyte. I am going to give that a try.

I'm so sorry about losing your girl. I'm sending you good vibes, thoughts, and prayers (complete with Shiba waggles) for her puppies. I wish I had some good advice to give you, but I just don't have any knowledge in this area, so all I can offer you is my best wishes. Please let us know how the puppies are doing.

Goat milk is FINE for baby puppies. It should be warmed to around 99-100 degrees farenheit. Use a thermometer.

You can buy Meynberg canned goat milk at the grocery. Don't dilute it. Mix with it as you heat it one egg yolk, 1/2 cup plain yoghurt, 2 tablespoons white karo or corn syrup, and several drops of ABCD baby vitamins. (DO NOT USE HONEY OR DARK MOLASSES). Heat this to 100 degrees on the STOVETOP using a thermometer to tell the temp. It will be fairly heavy, but should go through a nurser altho you might have to enlarge the nipple opening slightly (with a hot needle). It will be MUCH BETTER to get your vet to show you how to tube feed the puppies. It is fast, efficient, and does not burn up their energy with suckling. Then you can bottle feed them a few times a day when you want to.

It is VERY IMPORTANT not to feed baby puppies ANY COWS MILK, and not to feed them formula that is TOO COLD. Chilled puppies die. They will need a heat source as well as nutrition. Get a lamp to suspend over where they are, or use a heating pad set on the low setting.

Also, puppies this age cannot eliminate. You must stimulate them to urinate and defecate after each feeding. Do this with a warm wet face cloth, gently rub the urinary and anal openings until you get the desired result.

Puppies need to be fed every 2 hours WITHOUT FAIL, yes, around the clock.

If you need to you can buy premade formula to mix tomorrow. Talk to your vet tomorrow about tube feeding, and if any way possible find someone whose bitch has just had puppies that can let your puppies nurse once or twice for the colostrum. Or ask your vet, sometimes they have frozen colostrum, this is very important for the puppies and they need to get it in the first 36 hours.

I have been wondering all day about these puppies. If you come back through here, please let us know how they are doing.
