This is so sad this happened it my city.
Someone has cut a dogs ears off with a knife. It really makes me sick how someone would hurt a dog this way. The Canadian laws are terrible for animals. It said in our local newspaper that the dog could have went back to the owner. If they paid for the vet bills. Since the dog is considered property. The owner has now turned the dog over to the Humane Society. So no fear of them ever hurting this poor boy. They have had hundreds of calls to adopt the dog. I hope he is able to find a great forever home.Caution there is a picture of the dog on the attachment. http://www.windsorhumane.org/news-ga...07-may-12.html |

This story made me so sick to my stomach.
I get all the news and updates sent from the humane society being a member and volunteer, and I was appauled. Not only the fact that this happened, but that the statement put out was that "the owner MAY be charged for it". MAY be charged? When are there ever going to be laws and penalties that actually do something? The person that did this should be behind bars! Instead the person gets offered the dog back if the vet bills are paid? What the heck is that?We all say that pets are part of our families, that they are like children to us. What kind of penalty would've been handed out if this was a childs ears cut off, or their bodies mutilated? I'm pretty **** sure that a child would never be going back into that home, and the parent would be locked up. There was talk that since they couldn't prove that the owner did it, that charges couldn't be made. And even if they could, all it would have been was a slap on the wrist, a small fine. But proof or not, does that really matter in this case? The owner left the dog in that condition. It was a concerned neighbour that contacted the humane society. If it wasn't the owner, wouldn't they have reported it themselves and taken the dog immediately to a vet? What a bunch of crap. Anyway, the owner has handed the dog over, and i'm sure bound for a great new loving home once all healed up! |

Gosh, that's just horrible!
I can't understand how someone could do somethig so stupid, especially towards an animal. At least the owner turned the dog in. |

Well, I'm glad to say that I just recieved another update on this, and the humane society isn't going to let this go. They are trying to press charges on the man that was responsible for this dog.
Dog abuse alibi challenged Callers dispute mutilated-puppy owner's story Chris Thompson, Windsor Star Published: Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Widespread publicity about a puppy whose ears were sliced off, allegedly by its former owner, has helped investigators with the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society compile their case against him. Nancy McCabe, field operations manager with the humane society, said she has received in the neighbourhood of 20 calls from people who had seen the man with the dog months ago, contradicting what he has told investigators. "He told us he only had the dog for a couple of weeks but people have come forward to say they saw him with the dog months ago," said McCabe. I'm sort of pulling his story apart as the people come forward." On Friday agents with the humane society received an anonymous tip about the dog, a German shepherd-rottweiler mix known as A.K., sitting on the balcony of a second-floor apartment in the 3400 block of Sandwich Street. He was bleeding from stumps where his ears had been, apparently cut off with a serrated kitchen knife or hand saw. The humane society, accompanied by police, rescued the dog and immediately took him for emergency treatment at a veterinary clinic. DOG FIGHT CLAIMED The owner met with McCabe over the weekend and told her he had only recently purchased the dog from a man named Jay and it was already missing its ears. He claimed the dog had lost its ears in a fight with another dog. McCabe has since reviewed humane society records and found they have been called to the man's apartment twice in the past six months for a dog outside with no shelter in bad weather. "Our agents made him bring him (the dog) in," said McCabe. She said she is carefully compiling her case against the former owner, who signed over control of the dog to the humane society on Monday, and hopes the regional inspector for the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) will lay criminal animal cruelty charges. "I'm not letting this go," said McCabe. "People are outraged and I am outraged as well. I'm still proceeding. Just because he signed the dog over he's not off the hook." The man is not being named pending the laying of charges. A.K. is healing well, McCabe said, but has had to be put under sedation again for treatment of rotting flesh where his ears were. The animal will be made available to the public for adoption once his recovery is complete. The dog's plight has made national headlines, appearing on the front page of the Globe and Mail Tuesday. The Windsor Star has been flooded with letters and e-mails expressing outrage over the incident. Dr. Ian Nicholson, an adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Western Ontario, said it is a human being's nature to come to the defence of the defenceless. "When we perceive someone or an animal who is helpless or vulnerable and needlessly in pain, we react because it's built into us," said Nicholson. Nicholson said research shows people who abuse animals often progress to harming humans, in particular spouses and children. "What is lacking is the ability to have empathy toward others, whether animal or human," said Nicholson. |

That is some "fouled-up" repugnant "stuff". Not only should this guy pay some penalty (jail time would be good), he should be never allowed to own another pet.
We need an animal-abuser website to track these monsters. |

That's not a bad idea Beryl!
We have websites for sexual predators, but what about animal abusers? I wouldn't want someone like him living in my neighborhood! Thinking about what he did makes me sick. Whether it happened in a dog fight or he did it himself, it shudders my mind. I look at Ra's ears and cringe at the thought! Is there some sort of petition that someone can start and send in to somebody important? |

Arrrghhhhhhh If he lived next to me I would cut his b*****y ears off.
They should put people like this in jail, they are nothing but a blight on society. I couldnt even imagine how someone would get a kick out of something like this, he must be insane . I hope that he is prosecuted harshly and I am sure that poor little dog will find a loving home |

Probably just trying to make his dog look tough by cropping its ears.
Sad he didn't bother to take it to a vet to do it instead.Cass. |

We had a similar story in my area --
http://www.palmbeachpost.com/search/...03pitbull.html They showed the photos on the tv. The poor dogs ears look like they were caught in a shredder. Imagine the way Lugar's ears are, only bloody, infected and chopped all over. They said the reason the dogs ears are so mangled is probably because it was wiggling and trying to get away. |
