runt of the litter has Worms real bad? Help
I have just discover worms really bad in a pup that I have. I mean these worm are on the outside of the body on the belly and in the girls private part so bad that is swollen big and look like a boys private part. I recently found my dog which is the mother and the people who had her, had her when she had her pups and I don't know where she had them at or nothing but I have already had one to die on me so I don know what up. What can I give her for the worm that is a home remedy cause I don't have the money to take her to the vet. Or is there a home remedy.

You need to get her to a vet ASAP! Many vets will make payment plans available, you cannot 'not' do anything about this. I have never heard of worms coming out of the private areas, maybe someone else here has, but take her in right away! If you cannot afford to get her taken care of take her to someone who can. not getting this taken care of is not a choice. Why do you have the dogs if you do not have the finances available to take care of them? Is there a friend who can take her in for you? Can the owner who owned the mother take her in?
When did you notice this? Can you post photos of her? How long has it been an issue? When did you get the puppy? What kind of puppy is it? |

Vet...you need a vet. You can't get around it, just take her in and get her treatment. Like Ashlie said, most vets will help you out with a payment plan.
And it's probably a good idea from this point on to put money aside for any vet care she might need in the future, just a little here and there really adds up and when something happens again, you won't need to worry about taking her to the vet because of bills. ![]() Cass. |

Agreed. There is no other way to get around it. She needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. If you did not have the money to take ONE dog to the vet, you should not have taken on the mother with a litter of puppies. All of those pups need vet care. If one of them is infested with worms, then I can assure you the others are.
Most vets are fine with payment plans, as long as it is not an Emergency Vet. E-Vets I have found (atleast in my area) only offer 'Care Credit', but you have to qualify in order to use it. It's like a credit card, so they check your credit. Saving up like $20 a week is what I would do. If you cannot afford to take this dog to the vet, you need to turn them into proper authorities (your local shelter/ASPCA), and allow them to give them the care that they need. |

runt of the litter/ has worm reply
I just wanted thank everyone for their sincere concern about the puppies I found along with my lost mother.
Someone found her and instead of turning her in to human society (which is where I looked for her everyday for 2months) they kept her and she gave birth to the puppies probably in unclean situation or what have you. So I know it looks like Im not taking care of my pups, but I sure as you see I actually am taking care of my pups as best as I can due to the situation and They are not being mistreated and I would turn them in to the human society if I thought they would get the proper care but they already told me that they would put them to sleep cause they are not wiened off the mother. MY pup has already improved her private part is back to normal and she has past alot of stuff from her rear which is probably the worms. I trying to figure out how to put the picture I upload with my profile name. |

There are rescue organisation who could probably help you too, if you need it. They're different from shelters in that they're organisations that are made up of a network of foster carers. They're not likely to pts the pups.
But, nevertheless, I'm glad your dogs have a good home. I still suggest you take them to the vet. They really do need medical care and puppies always need to be checked over by the vet, as well as their dam. Just to make sure they're ok. The vet can help with the worm problem (and I agree that if one has them, they all have them). To upload an avatar (like my JJ image), go to your User CP (link is at the top of the screen on the left) and select 'edit avatar'. That will take you to a screen when you can upload your avatar or choose one of he premade ones. ![]() Cass. |

Agreed.
Keep in mind that just because she passed worms, that does not mean they are out of her system. Puppies can die VERY quickly from worms if left untreated (they rob them of essential nutrients needed to survive). I hope you can find the help you need. I would try every single avenue to get these puppies seen by a vet. Look for a no-kill shelter in your area, call every single vet in town and ask about payment plans. |

where are you from? if your in NY i am almost sure my rescue can take the pups if you feel the need to turn them over we are a no-kill shelter and when the dogs are being kept at the vet they will be treated and if not in the vet they will be in an experienced foster home
i am happy that it is healing but you still need to get her to a vet |

Are you sure that they were worms and not maggots? I've never ever heard of worms where you said that these were and they usually die quite quickly once out of the body.

This is what I have been told so far from, a PM sent to me:
::Mod Edit - Quote deleted, see forthcoming PM:: This is great information, have you posted it in the forum? You need to let as many people on her know about this as you can. I am only one person. So ask and copy what you have written me into your original post, maybe others can help you too! Keep her away from other dogs. You may want to give the medication to the mother also. A tip about breeding; Do not breed. It is not good for anyone involved when the breeders do not have then proper care ready for mom and babies. Please do not consider breednig these dogs again. Look how much pain and suffering they are goign through. Thanks! Anyone else want to offer advice about responsible breeding or how to care for your dogs? |

Quote:
I'm very sorry to say but this is a very important aspect of owning a dog. It's irresponsible to not be prepared for emergencies. You can't NOT have "a few hundred bucks hanging around" to use in case a dog gets sick. You cannot predict the future of a dogs health, and whether or not it's going to be sick. Having some extra cash around is safer than having to end up resorting to the internet saying "What do I do?" My animals have gotten sick, and most of the time we've had to rush them to the E-vet. $300 just to be told "They'll be alright" is a huge dip and we find the money some how to pay for it. However, if we let it slide and didn't get it checked out, my animals wouldn't be here. If you choose to watch a puppy suffer by not taking it to a vet, or finding SOME way to get it to the vet (you've been given SOO SO many options), then I guess that's your choice. But to me, morally, it's wrong and you shouldn't have these pups, nor any dog if you aren't willing to care for it properly. And you want to breed? What happens if your female needs a C-section in the middle of the night? What if one of the puppies becomes breached? What if the mother dies suddenly, or loses consciousness? There's really a lot more to breeding than what I believe you think. It's not about throwing two dogs together and hoping it all goes well. You have to properly care for the mother (diet, exercise, ROUTINE VET CHECKS) before, during, and after pregnancy. And the gestation for a dog is 63 days. That's slightly over 2 months. So the one female should not be due in 3. This is JMO, and I'm sorry if you feel offended, but you came on here looking for advice and I have given you mine. I still think that just because you don't have money "laying around" is a sorry excuse not to get this helpless puppy to the vet. ETA: Over the counter wormers are not as strong as ones prescribed by your vet. So, it may not completely rid her of the worms. You'd need to get a stool sample taken in (it's CHEAP and won't cost you an office visit) and analyzed to determine whether the worms are gone or not. The eggs cannot be seen by the naked eye. |
