Bad Gas Boston!

My husbands Boston Terrior has the worst gas I have ever smelled in my life! I am pregnant and he makes me vomit daily with his putrid smell. We even have friends that won't come over anymore because he just stinks too bad. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions on how to help would be appreciated. Please help before he kills me!

What food is he eating? It's possible that the food is the cause of the bad gas.

Uh...gonna go out on a limb and say it *might* be the food. A dog eating food that agrees with his system should not have gas to the extreme that you are describing (a little gas may be normal, just like with humans). Honestly, I'd cut out the moist food. There's no reason for it. See if that helps. If not, then I'd try better quality food - a middle of the road brand - like Diamond Naturals...whatevers not being recalled at the moment I'd probably go with a chicken variety b/c I've just historically had good luck w/chicken agreeing with dogs. I'd probably stay away from beef based food.

I agree with Kennelmom. If his seizure meds are tablets, just wrap the tablet in some cream cheese or some peanut butter. Anything soft and gooey that he likes (my dog is on several meds, so I understand giving them can be a problem). You don't need the moist food.

I'd change the dry food too. This is a great article about choosing a commercial dog food. http://www.globalpaw.com/dog-health-...food-fido.html

Oh and just so you know...even though high quality food seems more expensive, you actually feed less of it so it will either work out around the same price or sometimes even cheaper than the lower priced crappy brands.

Our Boston could clear a room with his gas!! Bostons are known for their gasiness.
We switched his food and that did help a bit. Just remember if you chose to switch foods to do it gradually.
Good luck!

It's possible BT's have a more sensitive GI tract than other breeds which would mean they need better management of their diet (don't know the breed all that well.) But, extreme gas is not normal. People say greyhounds are "known" for their gas..it's a running joke in greyhound circles...again, though, it's usually a diet issue and finding a food that agrees with the dog.

I would also stay away from dairy unless you know your dog isn't lactose intolerant (many dogs are.) You could potentially make a bad gas situation even worse w/dairy!

Boston's are very gassy dogs- sorry no way to really get away from that one lol I feed Nutro and they are still gassy... Do you feed anything else besides just dog food? Some times extra's can cause more fumes so to speak...

Wow! Thanks for all the advice. I am going to tell my husband he just needs to get a new dog! NO! I'm joking. I am going to have him try getting rid of the moist food and upgrade the other. And then PRAY REAL HARD! : ) I had also heard Bostons were just gassy but I was hoping that wasn't true. lol.

Lamb protein really seems to agree with my little girl. I've also discovered that a single protein source seems to make a big difference. Since I've started her on Eagle Pack Lamb/Rice I don't think she's had a single episode of gas!

Our Boston was the same way no matter what she ate. It was just horrible. I swore I'd never have another and I haven't. They are fantastic dogs though.

I'm not trying to be a smart@$$, but your dog having gas really a catastrophic problem? If people won't come over because your dog farts, they are goofy.

Dobermans are also known to be gassy and mine are no exception. It can stink to high heaven, but I just can't imagine considering that a real problem.

Yep maggie my boston is very gassy as well. She farts on a daily basis and will clear a room. I love her though and it doesn't bother me that much. It really disturbs my mom though because she has a sensitive stomach. She is still gassy no matter what we feed her as well.
