Ring worm? Usually they cause balding. Dogs can pick them up basically anywhere...

hmmmmm..trixie had something like that a little while ago, and it was a skin infection that can be caused by something as simple as a tiny scratch. hers was on the inside of her back legs and her baldness there was from her scratching/biting at it. it cleared up after 2 days of anitbiotics and steriods to help with the itching. they ran a demadex skin test just to be safe, but she was negative. hopefully its something that simple.

Mange can be a cause for hair loss and itching as well. There are two different types of mange, demodex and sarcoptic.

Two good links to check out about mange:

Demodex Mange

Sarcoptic Mange

Ringworm can also cause hair loss and itching. It's also very contagious...
Ringworm

Flea allergies can cause baldness like that too. Could be any number of things honestly.

Yeah i agree with Cassiepeia, it can be a number of things that could have caused the baldness, the best thing you could have done was take her to the vet, be sure to keep an eye on it though in case it becomes worse, most of the time the baldness is the result of the dog excessivly scratching/ biting the area.

These things do tend to start off small so for future reference when you play or pet your dog all ways check her for any skin rashes, bumps, fleas, ticks and any thing that is abnormal because at times if you don't catch it in the first instance it can become more serious.

Did the vet prescibe anything for her?

Hope it clears up.

Rebel

It's probably a seriouse infection or parasite of some sort. Vets are sometimes wrong. 10% of the time out of 150% any way, watch your dog, WATCH HIS EVERY MOVE

Hot spots are pretty common. Have the Vet. do a scraping to find out exactly what it is before medicating.

To find out what is exactly, like calgal says you will have to get a scraping done. If you don't want to take him to the vet, you could give him a bath and keep it clean, if it mites it might go away on its own, but if its not, it might not.

Mange can also spread and become very serious, so look at it from your dog's point of view to decide if it's worth the test and treatment now, before it gets out of hand. (Pets have even had to be euthanized for serious cases of untreated mange, unfortunately.) I wish the best for your dog (what's his name, btw?), and hope he gets better soon!

Search Demodex Mange and you may be able to keep your dog comfortable and encourage health without seeing the vet again, but you will have to do some serious research.
