Puppy days are going fast, so is this question
You remember my sweet little puppy brody right? well now, he is about 7 to 8 months old, and just lifted his leg yesterday for the first time.... awww my widdle baby is growing up sooo fast! But here is the Question, when should i get him neutered? in a month or two? i kno that the earliest you can get it is six months.... but should i wait till he lifts up his leg all the time (i kno that sounds dumb but this will be the first dog i have gotten neutered) or will he just do it automaticly even if neutered, i kno that some males dont even lift there leg but???
Srry if this is a dumb question, but i have got to kno! LOL |

Not a dumb question at all! You can get a male neutered at any age although 6 months is suggested because they have done the majority of their growing, but have not yet reached sexual maturity. I had Zermatt neutered at 8 months. He never showed any signs of dominance and had only lifted his leg a few times. He still rarely lifts his leg. When the males lift thier leg, it is for marking (a dominance trait). If the male is very submissive (as Zermatt is) he will feel no need to mark/lift his leg. Hope this helps and I am sure you will get more great responses!

my male dog was neutered only a couple months ago. he's 2-3 years old. he marked everywhere, hiked that leg up sky high, when he first came here. now half the time he squats to pee in the yard. i prefer squatters, personally.

Awww wittle man is growing up!
It isn't a dumb question at all, he could be neutered now if you choose, personally I wouldn't wait at his age but that is something only you can decide. ![]() |

I neutered Boone when he was between 5 & 6 months. He started marking things right before that and hasn't stopped. But I'm glad I neutered him when I did or it might be out of control. He's learned to only mark trees and bushes, stuff like that.

Winston hiked his leg for the first time at about 15 weeks. The day he turned 6 months, I had him neutered. He and the other two hike legs on walks, or out in the yard, but are very well housetrained. If I were you, I wouldn't wait. I'd go ahead and get it done.

Actually, you can spay or neuter before six months though personally I'd wait until about six months. Colby we got at two and a half months and she was spayed when she was around six months old I believe. May we got when she was two and spayed when she was maybe two and a half and Tippy was spayed in September.
