no bowel movement in 24 hours
my bb usually has regular (and frequent) bowel movements. like most puppies do. well, he hasn't had one in well over 24 hours! i was so worried i made a vet appiontment. i left work early, begged for an appointment (they wanted to close early due to the snow) , and braved snowy roads( we are having a snowstorm in nj right now) to get to the vet. upon examination, he said nothing was wrong, no temp, no empacted bowel etc . i mentioned that i was so worried i gave bb people food(which he ate) just to get him to eat and possibly make a #2. and the vet told me that i probably was spoiling him and not to offer him anything but dry god food for a few days to force him to eat it. someone told me that tiny dogs must eat many times a day due to their size, so needless to say i am a bit upset. i want to do the right thing, but i don't want bb to suffer.any suggestions? i am sure the vet knows better than me, but i still wonder.
can you all imagine my embarrassment when i had to tell my busband the vet diagnosis was : dog is spoiled! |

LOL
I feed Jesse twice a day. Once in the morning and once at night and I try to avoid all 'human' food (that is, food I've prepared specifically for me). I would listen to the vet and just keep an eye on BB for a day or so. 24hrs isn't that long. People go that long too, ya know. So don't panic yet. I'm sure others here will be able to dish out more helpful advice than this..though. ![]() Out of interest, could he have gone without you knowing? Cass. |

BB Little dogs eat little more often. It helps their sugar levels.
I feed my girls human food but only foods that are safe naturally. If you are worried about her not going to toilet then you can give her a small amount of metamucal (human med) this is what my vet suggested for Chloe as she is on meds that can constipate her. As for spoiling your dog.... Isnt that what we have them for lol |

A little bit of canned pumpkin sometimes makes them go too. One of mine had a hard time going last week. I gave her a tablespoon of canned pumpkin and she went within a few hours.
Hope yours goes soon. |

Bitty has surprised me with not having a bowel movement for over 24 hours too. It worried me because she is known as the "Poop Factory." She ALWAYS has to go. I watched her really carefully while she didn't go, and finally the next day she went normally like she didn't even wait 24 hours.
