Nasty farts help

Okay, my dogs are well taken care of, please don't throw smelly eggs at me, but I have a severe problem with nasty doggie farts.

I changed my older dog's kibble to a senior dog food about 6 weeks ago and I think it caused really stinky farts. I changed it back to the original kibble about 3 days ago. Anyway, the farts are still continuing and I'm sure the farts will eventually go away, but in the meantime we're DYING in our own house.

I think it's the kibble because I don't recall the stinky farts until about 4 weeks ago.

So the question is, what can be done about farts aside from changing the food if that is the cause? Is there something they can take?

Thanks.

Dogs really do not do well with a sudden diet change!!! My vet told me several years ago that when you change food, you must do it slowly b/c it causes an upset in the dogs digestion. Even if you stay within brands.

In my case he advised that I start with a 40 lb bag of current food and replace 2 oz of current food with 2 oz of the new food every 2-3 days until you are up to 70-80% new food ...... I have always done this and had good results with very little gas .....

At this point I think you're kinda between a rock and a hard place b/c the dog isn't used to either one of the formulas. You may just have to tough it out and just buy a case of Lysol or Fabreeze. I'd call you vet just to make sure.........

Both have gas or just one? What food are you feeding? Are poos loose or off-color?

My dogs get gassy when fed cooked turkey, cooked broccoli, canned tuna and some other stuff. I just try to eliminate it from their diet. Cooked foods are more problematic than raw for my dogs.

If it's digestion related, then you might be feeding food your dog cannot digest well and the bacteria in your dogs gut are having a gas party.

If it's health related, you might need to run some blood tests and a stool sample to rule out serious stuff.

If your dog is healthy and maintaining weight, you might want to try probiotics and digestive enzymes for a couple weeks to see if it that works.

Could it be because of what is really in pet food?

Does Your Dog Food Include Euthanized Dog?

I agree it probably has to do with the diet change. Slow transitions for diet changes is essential, some dogs do better than others, and sometimes dogs digestion just doesn't agree with the change. What are you feeding them? What did you switch to? Lower quality foods like Purina, Ol' Roy, etc. (basically any dog food you can buy in a grocery store, IMO) contain more fillers and junk, which can bother dog's digestion. There are digestive enzymes, I think Eagle Pack makes one. I've never used one before, but I hear they work. Also try and put a spoonful of plain yogurt into their dog food each day.

Canidae is a good food for all ages of dogs, so if you have a few dogs in different life stages, this might be a good choice.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Pay sounds like just the best dog ever. I truly believe our pets cross the Rainbow Bridge and become the young, boistrous puppies they used to be. And, that they are busy playing while they're waiting for us.
