Shelby's going downhill.

We just got back from the vet with Shelby, our 9yo Beagle. She was diagnosed with epilepsy when she was 1yo, and not expected to make it past 5. Recently we noticed that her activity is slowly, and she's not eating as well so we decided to take her in to be checked out. That's when we find that her liver counts are 6 times the normal count, most likely from the phenobarbital, so the dosage was lowered...which lead to more seizures, so we had to knock it back up. Well, we went back in yesterday because she has slowly gotten worse, turns out she is in congestive heart failure. The vet says that it can be helped with medicine, but because of the medicine for her epilepsy it will continue to raise the liver counts, so either way it won't be doing her much good. We are scheduled to an ECHO Tuesday afternoon to see just how bad her heart is.

I'm so sorry to hear about Shelby's health...

I hope her heart isn't in too bad a shape. Poor girl, she certainly doesn't need something else to deal with right now.

She seems to be doing a little bit better today. She's got a little more life in her, and she's not retracting as bad as yesterday.
