Long term foster( graphic)
Well it looks like a may have a new addition to my family soon enough.
This guy was removed from his home along with 2 other dogs. He is anemic, and severly underweight. As it stands he has 0% body fat. I will need everyones support. Also, he is a non neutered male, which means he will be trying to mark everything, which then means harley will also try. I have never had to deal with this, any ideas ?? By the way, he looks a lot worse in person |

Oh, that poor boy.
I hope he gets his weight back on soon and doesn't come down with anything. I hope the people who had him had animal neglect/abuse charges filed against them.As for marking....I really don't know what to do about that. Not all intact males mark inside the house- it is my experience that the untrained/high strung ones are the ones that have problem marking in the house. They do make those male bellyband things to stop the dog from marking (or he'll still mark, it will just be into the band). |

How people can be soo cruel!!!
I wonder what the punishment is for people who treat their animals that way. I hope is more than just paying a fee. I wish they could go to jail for long time and to be prevented from ever having another animal for pet again. |

Oh gosh. Thank God you're there to take him and help him heal. Kudos to you!
Aysa has belly bands for when he marked and when we go into new places, etc. You can put a women's pad in them for added absorbency, just don't use the ones with wings (Aysa can tell stories, poor guy!). I bought mine from Calgal. Much cheaper than store brand ones. |

That is so sad. It is amazing how much trust and love dogs show for humans no matter how much pain they or in or how abused and neglected they are.

Poor guy, he has a wonderful smile and looks like a real charmer. You are both lucky to have found eachother.
About marking, he may not be a marker like Ritz said. Not all males have the strong desire to mark. If they do mark - you can either correct the behavior or do the belt thing like TAB suggested. Personally I prefer behavior modification, it's more work upfront but over a lifetime it's easier, JMO. It's very similar to potty training, just have to be very watchful and correct any marking behavior such as the leg lift or he is actually marking. If he does mark, the only option is to clean up, watch closer next time and hope to catch him in the act. I started teaching "go pee" as an okay for marking and go pee command, it's working like a charm. If you need mess cleaning tips, I love the enzyme cleaners by Bio-Kleen (Bac-out) and Kids-n-pets, not sure if you have the same brands in Canada. Also a black light detects dried pee, I'm sure your daughter would love searching the house for pee marks they glow green under the blacklight, its really quite fun, my daughter loves it ![]() |

I know for a fact if Taz is able to come here there will be marking, either by him or Harley.
They said he may be released as of next monday. At that time I will go with harley to see the initial reaction of the dogs. Harley will be the hardest I believe because of his challenging behaviour, If I can not do it, I have a dog food company willing to sponsor him for 6 months ![]() |

I'm curious...is he underweight because he was starved or does he have a medical condition causing weight loss and/or starvation? |

Seeing this guy in such a horrible condition and yet with a big smile, brought me to tears. He is so happy to have found someone who is helping him. People who could do this to any animal does not have a spirit. Very scary. I would get a couple of belly bands and some poise pads just in case he does start marking.
