Baby Razael went in for her spay this morning, a week early
She was set to have it done on April 2nd, but yesterday I noticed her vulva was just a tiny bit swollen so I called the Vet. He didn't seem to think she started her heat yet but said I could bring her in this morning, which I did. I just don't like taking any chances. I'm now anxious to hear if he could tell if she in fact did start her cycle. She's also getting some baby teeth pulled and microchipped. He's the best Vet. anywhere, so I know she's in good hands. I have friends who come all the way from King City (135 miles) just to take their dogs to him and he has people who come from LA. (150 miles)
I'm trying to make myself feel better. |

I hope she has a smooth and fast recovery.
It isn't fun having our babies away from us, but at least this is for a good reason. |

I picked her up at 4:30 yesterday and she was so excited to see me. The Vet. was busy so I didn't get a chance to talk to him about the swelling. She ate and drank and kept things down and cuddled with me on the sofa till bedtime. He said to keep her from running. I have her in the expen with the crate attached, but I have a big problem. She jumps up and down (like "boing-boing") and that is worse than running. I've carried her around this morning wondering what I can do with her, so I just draped a sheet over the fence. She cried for a little bit, quit, then howeled some. It's off and on like that. So sad. I can't put her in the crate and shut the door. She won't stop screaming and chewing the wire if I do. This is a dilemma for me now. I'll think of something else I guess.

I'm glad her spay went well...silly girl, cannot sit still for her tummy to heal. You've tried everything I would have tried too.
How about carrying her around for a few days? I've used a baby sling and pouch (also called a tube) for Hank. Since you sew, it's really easy to make, just 2 seams and takes 1-2 yards of fabric depending how deep of a pocket you want to make and if you want to have it adjustable. There are lots of patterns online, here are a few in case you're interested. Jan Andrea has the best instructions and tips - Jan Andrea at home on the web Sew-free instructions - Make a Pouch Make A Baby Sling :: Baby Carriers | Baby Slings | Mamma's Milk Make your own baby sling! Hope that sparks some creativity.... |

I'm so glad Razael got through her spay well.
LOL She just can't wait to be running around again like normal though, can she? Silly pup. I don't have any ideas on how to keep her from jumping though. I'm sure you or someone else will come up with a better idea. You'll have to take her for a big day out of fun when she has her stitches out (or is ok to run again). ![]() Cass. |

Harley and Abby were just the same after they got desexed. They were bouncing around and super hyper. It was so hard to keep them calm and stop them from getting over-excited. I'm really sorry though, I don't have any tips to stop her from jumping.. I think looking after an exciteable pup through their spay/neuter is a difficult stage to go through. I remember it being quite tough.

I didn't realize just what I was getting myself into with this busy girl. I've had fosters that had to be spayed, but they were not jumping jacks, and didn't mind being in the expen.
Today we took her with us to Home Depot, Petco, and a car wash. She got tons of attention and even one guy who works at Home Depot ask if he could take her picture. She was a bit worn out by the time we got home and is sleeping on my lap. My husband is helping with taking turns holding her while I get some things done. If by Monday it get's to be more than I can handle, I will take her back to the Vet. so they can take care of her till she can run around again. Cass, her stitches are on the inside and are the disolvable type, so I don't have to take her back unless there is a problem of one thing or another. Thank you so much dogs4life. I'm going to try the T-shirt sling. I do have T-shirts that are too small for me. (I hate saying that) ![]() |

I'm glad she got through her spay allright!
We were concerned when we took Chloe in that we wouldn't be able to get her to calm down enough for her to heal, but the poor dog was so drugged up for the first two days that she just laid around...then we found out she had a mild internal infection and needed to be treated for worms on top of that, so she was drugged up for a couple more days. At least it kept her calm - I don't think I could have carted Chloe around all day. |
