I took my dogs to a local park because It was so NICE out, about 62 out and slight breeze. They loved It, I was picking up a conversation with a lady that had 3 French Bulldogs. So adorable, she pulled out a little metal dog dish and filled it with Propel? A flavored Water drink, and I was just wondering If this Is healthy? She's there 3x a week with her dogs, and I was wondering If I should question her on It? I bought a bottle (lol) to check the Ingredients and I really dont think It would be a good REAL water replacement. I'm just worried, what If she doesnt give her dogs actual water? I think that may be a real concern, I'm thinking about calling my vet to ask. Or anybody have any articles I could print and show her. I know Its really none of my concern, but I wouldnt want her little dogs getting sick. Not when I can tell her or atleast give some kind of advice. I'm not asking her to listen or do anything I say, but knowing I told her makes me feel less guilty. Like If they got sick, I could tell my self I tried to help her understand the risk
. Though I'd still feel really bad LOL! Probably get all worried, and hide from the dog park for a week or more to avoid conflict with other dog owners there . I tried google and cant find ANYTHING on letting a dog drink Propel. I give my dogs spring water, (because they sometimes have breathing problems and well water Isnt a good idea for them). Let me know, Thank you! |

For some reason I don't think thats what her dogs drink all the time. Maybe thats all she had with her at the time to take to the dog park. I have no clue how bad it would be, it does contain sugar...thats not good for dogs.

She has been spotted doing It a few other times. So It couldnt be she just forgot actual water. That and we have a water thing (for people to drink out of) at the park. She could of went over and filled up the bowl there. I've done It before because Its clear water. I was thinking of asking her, but what If its bad PERIOD?

That is weird. I don't know anything about how good or bad it is. Maybe she just wants them to have the extra electrolytes while they are outside?? I imagine it would get pretty expensive it she gave them propel all the time.

Not just expensive weird lol? Why would you give your dog propel, period? I thought I was crazy giving my dogs spring water, but propel? I'm going to keep looking and see If I can find anything on google. I could call my vet but you know how akward it would be? "Hey I was wondering can Propel make a dog sick, because some lady gave her dog some at the park". I might look like some kind of stalker

How strange, giving diet drinks to dogs.
Doesn't propel have sucrose and sucralose (Splenda)? I know sucralose causes loose bowels in children so I'd suspect it causes atleast loose bowels in dogs too. |

That really is very odd. Definately ask your vet about it, although vets aren't known for their vast knowledge on dog nuturition, it's certainly worth the query.
I don't know why it would occur to someone to feed a dog diet drink/flavoured water either. Seems very odd and I agree that she may be doing it on a regular basis if she's been spotted more than once. If you want to talk to her about it try a casual mention of how surprised you are to see her do it or perhaps jokingly tell her that your poor dogs have to put up with 'plain' water LOL. This could open up conversation and get her to tell you why she does it. Cass. |

Haha I got a conversation started "Fruit cake"
. I called my vet and she was to busy to respond to questions. So I left a message and she hasnt called me yet. But hopefully she will call me soon. If It is a problem I'll just bring it up. I just get straight to the point, I'm not shy about it. What person gives dogs sport drinks, lol. I'm sorry but I'm going to have this in my head for like 2 months. I told everybody at work and they thought she was a qwack haha. If I doesnt harm them thats good, but why would you even attempt that? Thats what I really want to know lol. |

Well, becareful just barging in and making a deal out of it. She may have a valid reason (then again she may not).

The only reason I could think you'd give them flavored water Is If they dont drink clear water. But what dog wont drink water? Eventually they will learn that thirst gets the better of them. The vet doesnt open until 9am, so I'm still awaiting the phone call. I found something online but it was Gatorade LOL.

I agree, all that sugar and coloring them put in there. How Is drinking a bunch of sugary water good for you? I think all the coloring and sugar In it could make a dog very Ill If given to much of it. There a small type of dog, I dont imagine they drink to much. But they still get enough, did you know they have a K9 Water? Its like a doggy Gatorade lol. What is this world coming to? What happened to just "water".

UPDATE: Well my vet called me and she said It would be fine as like a sweet treat, or to put a little in with clear water. But she said If its an actual water replacement It will make a dog Ill. So I guess Its just a matter If Its an everyday kind of thing or only like 1-3x a week.
