Ear Infection
I think Zoe's got an ear infection. She keeps shaking her head vigorously, and her ears (mainly her left one) droops quite a bit. They're normally erect. She's already got a vet appointment this Saturday to get her heartworm prevention, but I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to help before then? Would cleaning help?

Cleaning could definitely help, especially if there is a lot of wax buildup in her ears (which would probably be the most likely cause of her head shaking). You can buy a product from a petshop or vet specifically for cleaning dogs' ears. All you need is cotton buds and a dog ear-cleaning solution, it's really simple.

My Jack russell has chronic ear infections caused from alleriges. Cleaning her ears always helps. I use something I bought from the vet and cotten makeup pads. Once a week I put a samll amount of cleaning stuff in her ear and massage it around the ear. Then I take the cotten pad and clean the outter part of her ear and then I roll it up and put it slightly down the canel and turn it. If she has a ear infection at this point it might not be a great idea to go this far since her ear hurts. When chloe messed with hers during a full blown ear infection I get a cool damp rag and carefully wipe it then hold it there for a few minutes. It seems to sooth the irratation for awhile. Do your best not to let her digg at it or shake her head to much because it can cause a hematoma and that isnt fun. My GSD has one right now.

I'd be interested to know if her symptoms cease after cleaning her ears out.
