dark skin spot
When I was bathing my 3 year old Cockapoo today I noticed that she has a dark brown skin spot on her side adjacent to her front leg, about the size of a small pea which is not totally round . It is flat on the surface and does not feel like it is attached anywhere. It is totally flat, and is not irritated or red. Of course I plan on having the vet check it out when I take her in for her shots but can anyone tell me what this might be?

Hmm, i'm really not sure.... the first thing what would come to my mind would be the possibility of skin cancer? But, I really have no idea. Who knows, it may be nothing at all, but i'd still take her to the vet and have it checked out just in case.

Is there any hair loss or thinning of the coat?
You may want to get a good vet or vet dermatologist to look at it. There are skin conditions which poodles (an other breeds) get which turn their skin dark but you may never know until you get a great vet or vet dermatologist to look at it. They may need to perform blood tests to rule out major hormone issues. Can you call your dog's breeder for information on littermate's health and parental health information and history? The breeder may have important information that can help the vet determine what's going on. If you can ask about hormone issues, skin conditions, thyroid problems that might help the vet tremendously. |
