Coughing Winston

Wednesday when I came home from work, Winston was hacking/coughing. I'd hoped he just had an irritation that would go away, but oh noooooo we were up all night Wednesday. We'd just get to sleep then he'd start hacking. Got him to the vet yesterday. Vet is unsure.. could be a type of kennel cough, it's making the rounds and she says there so many strains of this, that and the other that there are many dogs coming down with it around here, and vaccs are next to useless. Even dogs that aren't around other dogs. Anyhow, he's on antibiotics. He coughed last night off and on, he didn't cough much today but he's coughed a bit tonight. More active he gets, the more he coughs. If we have another rough night tonight, I'll ask and see if they have some sort of cough suppresent that I can get.

Meanwhile, I am hoping.. hooooooping, that my other pugs don't catch what he has. Having 4 coughing/hacking pugs, just doesn't seem appealing to me. I was going to stay overnight tomorrow at a friends, and bring my pugs (she has two pugs as well). We were going to bbq and have a few 'adult beverages', but I had to cancel. I won't risk her pugs getting this, if what Winston has, is contagious.

I wonder why the Vet. didn't give you something to give him while you were there. I sure hope he gets over whatever it is really soon poor baby.

Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in, he'll feel better and no one else will get it! Best of luck and hugs to Winston!

Last night I gave him some cough syrup that the vet said was safe.... I sat down on the floor with him, backed his butt into a corner, and used a syringe.. was actually super easy to do.. but you shoulda seen the look on his FACE! He did some serious puckering LOL

Anyhow, last night he didn't cough at all. Nothing. Today he has barked out the window at people walking by, and no coughing. So that means he's gone over 12 hours without coughing and hacking. WOOHOO. I'm sure he'll cough some more, but it's definitely a lot better than it was. I'm so glad.. breaks my heart to see one of my boys not feeling good.

Thank you for asking... Winston continues to do better. Occasionally when he gets to rough housing too much and he'll HONK a few times, but he's so much better. Last three nights, no coughing! Just occasionally during the day. We have I think two days left of antibiotics. Two and a half days maybe.
I'm just hoping... HOPING that my others don't catch it. So far, so good.

I'm organizing another pug party for this coming Sunday. Whether or not my boys can go, I don't know. Sucks to think of going to a pug party without them. Wonder how long it would be before my other pugs show symptons if what Winston had was kennel cough? How long are they contagious? How long will my boy have COOTIES?! lol I suppose I should give the vet a call.
