My CKCS has an Interdigital Cyst

I noticed last week that my dog was licking her paws alot especially her back left paw and i told her too stop because i saw something odd and it was a red lump, we took her to the vets and we found out that she had a Interdigital Cyst.

We didn't think much at the time when she was licking because we have found out that she has an allergy problem mostly caused by trees, pollen and grasses and her licking her paws was some how associated with this, not sure how though?

We had some meds from the vets and we used them for a couple of days and we were told that the cyst would have probably burst the next day but it didn't and it was a possibility that the meds were preventing the cyst from bursting and she's been of them now for about 5 days and the cyst has burst a few times but hardly anything has come out? It's not as bad as it was when we first saw it but it still doesn't seem to be shifting? So she's going to be groomed tomorrow as this helps with her skin allergies also so were going to be taking her to the vets afterwards if we can.

Just not sure what to do, really annoying that the cyst hasn't fully burst, also whether i should put her back on her Ampicillin tabs or not and whether they will help or again prevent the cyst from bursting.

My girl had interdigital cysts last year, but they did not rupture. She went on some meds and had a change in diet-- no more lamb! (that is what the vet and I suspected she had an allergy to) The cysts can be a result of a contact or food allergy, from trauma to the foot (like jumping on gravel or other hard surfaces), or it could be idiopathic-- meaning you have no idea where it came from! After the round of meds and change in diet they went away.

She's doing OK, im sure it irritates her alot because she will lick it from time to time, have thought about dabbing the cyst with a little bit of warm water and salt too see if it will help but then again i don't want to prevoke the cyst, just in case i might make it worst.

Hi Schwe,

Her cyst is a little more above that where your is show in the pic and not between the toes. She's also on a light maintaince sort of diet because she's a little plump but were not sure whether it's the food that's caused it.

Here's a copy of her Haematology Report back from the Lab:

She's allergic to quite a bit as you can see from the results.

Bulldogs are notorious for interdigital cysts being caused from allergies on through to stress so we see them pretty often in our breed of choice. I can tell you the easiest way to get the cyst to pop so the dog can get a little relief as well as start to heal IF your already sure thats what it is.

Your welcome to PM for the information if you'd like.

Thanks for the replies everyone, she going to be groomed today, she looks like a puppy after she's groomed . After that were taking her to the vets to be checked over and see what they think and hopefully get something sorted out most probably more meds to come home with.

Took her too the vets today and i pretty much guessed their answer but better safe than sorry. She's not on some anti-inflamitories and still on the same meds and we have to bath her paw and cysts in some warm salted water, which should help .

She's happy in herself but sometimes i seems that they annoy her, that's probably why she licks them.

I suppose i could try that but i'd have to consult my vet just in case, it might work for some dogs or their condition, just be on the safe side. She's still on meds and anti-inflamitories at the moment and just bathing the cysts and keeping an eye on her.

She seems to be done OK which is good, she has had it before but not 2 so it was kinda worrying.

Please be very careful with tea-tree oil! I've heard/read that it can be harmful. Just do a lot of research if/before you use it.
