Exclamation Rash/Brusies on Stomach

Our 6 year old German Shepperd Mix dog, has had brusies on her stomach for awhile now. I just rolled her over and there are sores on her stomach along with brusies. What could this be? We are becoming VERY worried about her!

My guess is that the bruises are from continued digging, scratching and hard rubbing against the stomach. Sounds like she has a skin issue that needs to be looked at by your veterinarian.

Go to the vet-especially if she shows pain or there is a lot. If you want to soothe it I suggest using some bag balm. You should try to "check" your dog whenever you pet or play with her. This way, you'll always be on top of any injuries or possible problems. It doesn't seem serious but she'll probably get some kind of ointment prescribed.

Take her to the vet before you do any kind of home treatment in case you use something that inadvertently makes the situation worse. It doesn't sound like a normal thing even if it may not be serious, and it would be the best thing to let the doctor decide what to do about it. Good luck with her, and keep us posted!

Urine Scald?

My dog has thick fur and one summer she developed urine scald. It was black- purplish patches that appears to be a rash or bruise like. But a vet had to diagnose this. The remedy was ointment, antibiotics, and now she gets her the bottom of her belly clipped every two weeks. Never happened again.

i would take her to a vet - while it could be a skin infection, having bruises may indicate taht there is a bleeding disorder or some immune mediated disease. your best bet would be having a veterinarian check her out...
