Sick Puppy
This my first puppy and he has a very bad cough. He is 3 months old, he has had this since I got him. I got him at 8 weeks.
I have had him to the vets and he has given antibioctics and even gave him 2 treatments of a nebulizor. Does anyone one know how long this cough will last? He plays, eats, gaining weight, and is doing good with his bathroom habits. He only coughs when he lays down. I thought after this long he would be better but hes not. He's better than he was when i brought him home. His breed is a Poosh. I need some advice. Buddy says thanks also. Skiman |

Sounds like kennel cough. My puppy developed pneumonia from kennel cough...so be careful. It usually takes a week or two, but the cough can continue for weeks. Has your puppy been checked for worms? Mine had worms which dragged it on longer.
Hope this helps! |

I'm sorry you're going through this with your new pup. What did the vet determine about the cause of the cough? It's hard to say how long it will last without knowing what your pup has. It's a good sign, though, that he sounds like a normal puppy other than the cough. Good luck with your little guy.

It could be related to a number of things...pneumonia, kennel cough, heart murmur, lung or heart worm, an enlarged heart...Its hard to be sure. Your vet may suggest they carry out some tests on him, for example; a heart scan or lung wash. That way they will hopefully get the results telling them what is causing the cough, therefore giving him the right medication. The antibiotics might work depending what is causing the cough, and if they do work then the cough should go after a few weeks or months. But if the antibiotics dont work then his cough can last for years.
My sheltie had this same problem. I hope the antibiotics work and i hope his cough clears up. |
