Ear cropping

Hello all,

My dobe puppy Natas and I are new to the site and I'm looking for any recommendations on vets and/or ear croppers in WI.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome fellow Dobe owner. Hope you enjoy the forum.

Why didn't your breeder get the puppies cropped? That should be done by the breeder. How old is your puppy? This should normally take place at around 7 weeks old. If you wait too long, it makes it much more difficult to get the ears to stand. You'll have to call some reputable breeders. You can find them at shows probably and see what vets they use. This is an art and not too many vets can do it right. A botched job is far worse looking than just leaving them natural, which I think looks all right. If you call some vets and get recommendations, be sure to ask for referrences of people who have used them and take a look at their dogs' ears. I sure wouldn't be familiar with any in WI or anyplace for that matter. My breeder had it done and I couldn't pick up my puppy until he was healed up and sutures just about to come out. That's how most breeders do it. I hope things work out well for you. Would love pictures of your new puppy.

All settled I found one that does the lazer surgery. supposedly it's supposed to heel faster and it's even less invasive.

Thanks!

Calgal, I don't show my Dobe and I still prefer the cropped ears for lots of reasons, among them the look. Actually, I do show my Dobe off....everytime I take him out in public or if someone comes to the house. He's a good representative of the breed. I think I am going to show him in obedience and/or agility though. But since he's neutered, no conformation.

Strat, that sounds cool. I never heard about lazer surgery for this. I would love to hear how it goes. Be sure and see some dogs that have been done by this vet. Hope it all goes well. Good luck!

Thanks again Carrie! I hope my dobe is a beautiful as yours when she's older. I too am thinking about getting her into obedience and agility. I already have her signed up for puppy kindergarten starting the first week of september at our local kennel club. I'm so excited to start working with her!
