My Aussie is 8 yrs old and for the last four years or so, she has had bouts of lameness that last about 2-3 days. She cant lift her hind end and when she finally does, she "tip-toes" and wobbles around. This last time, however, its been about 6 days and she is not really recovering. We had x-rays done years back when it first happened, but they were inconclusive (according to the vet). Is this a common problem with older Aussies? Is there treatment ?

Little help is better than none...
I am sorry that I have no real answer for you, however, I can tell you two things. Number one, if my 6 year old was lame for 6 days, I would go to the vet. And Number 2, I am not sure if this will help but here are some sites I found.
http://www.aussierescue.org/aussieinfo/health.html hip dysplasia http://www.recoverysa.com/hip_dysplasia_dogs.htm http://www.canismajor.com/dog/dys01.html I hope this helps, and sorry I couldn't say more. |

It isn't so much that it's a common problem with the breed. 6 days is WAY too long and she needs to be seen by a vet.
I realize you had xrays done years ago but alot can change over time and if nothing else I'm certain its painful for her and she should be put on a pain killer and something to relieve swelling. |
