Possible Worms?
Question to the board. While outside this afternoon picking up stool, I noticed that one pile had worms inside. This pile seemed to be older than the others that I had picked up from the rest of the yard. (Probably one I missed while picking up the other day, so I'd say probably 4 days old). I did not notice any worms from the other 15 or so piles (2 lab pups). I did some research on the net, but to no avail. I have noticed some sand like material in their stool (these 2 dig quite a bit and often have noses/mouths full of dirt), but everything I have read says they are "rice like" or "cucumber seed" size eggs. Should I be concerned? Or is it possible for maybe an insect to have layed eggs in the stool and they have hatched in the couple of days?
I have them on frontline for their appropriate size (25-50lbs). The latest visit to the vet (2 weekends ago) did not reveal any problems when he did a stool test. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

Best to have it checked out -- are the dogs butt-scooting? Have a fresh stool sample analyzed at the vet's. You certainly don't want to take a chance that they do have worms. It could be a type that Frontline doesn't guard against.

Since they were just in the vet, I'd also just give them a head up call, and ask them the questions you had here, about the worms in the stool, the sandy material, and that you use frontline product.
They may be able to better gauge what you are seeing, as well as point you to other websites with more information, and could schedule or be aware that a 'fresh sample' wil be arriving shortly! |
