Basically a Staph infection is a bacterial infection on the skin, all dogs have bacteria but sometimes that bacteria can get out of hand causing alot of signs that your little girl is showing.

Staph allergic dogs tend to develop reoccuring infections with areas that range typically from 1/2 inch to 2 inches or larger in size. Treatment of a Staph allergy requires antibiotics for the immediate problem and desensitization with Staph antigen for long term control.

Thanks crossfire, she is no better today and the vet said that if she is still itching on fri she has to go on antihistime tablets, do you think I should mention staph (how do you say it lol) or is it not treatable in preg bitches?

There are two typical Staph lesions. One type begins as a red area on the skin with a pimple-like pustule in the center. The other type is a circular, reddish area with a crusty edge and hair loss in the center. The latter can easily be confused with ringworm.

Those are the two most common ways Staph appears but its not limited to just those clinical signs.

We had a rescue awhile back that had very much the same as what your girl is going through and after having her previous owner's vet mess with it for over six months she came to us, since it had been that long with no luck we did a bacterial culture and there is was....Staph.
