Puppy Fungus
First have you ever heard of it? I took Hershey to the vet other day and pointed out this spot on his little elbow and the vet pulled off a scab and said, "Hmm..looks like puppy fungus..he's ok..just put some lotrimon on it or keep it wet, just don't let the scab get back on there." He said it's not really a fungus but it sometimes happens when puppies are with their pack awhile. I've had Hershey since he was 5 weeks and he's 12 wks now...I noticed the spot right after the first time I took him to the vet, about three weeks ago.
So I take Hershey home and try to put a wet rag on it a second and apparantly pulling the scab off bothered my baby because he had nothing to do with that rag on his...fungus. I let him take a nap since he was already moody from his booster shot that I said, OK I'll try tomorrow. Still had nothing to do with the rag. So yesterday, I bathed him and I was able to get water on it. However, that may work but he's a lab and I don't want to bathe him more than once a week if I have to, just so I don't hurt his coat. Can anyone tell me some good ideas about getting some water on this pup before this scab grows back? My husband isn't home when I'm home, we work together (not much longer, he's quitting and we're moving!) so I don't have anyone who can hold him for me while I try to get to him. I've tried while he ate, I've tried while he's slept, I think it's just sore and he fights me like crazy when I am able to touch it long enough. |

I'm imagining it is probably sore or sensitive to the touch.
I'd get the softest possible rag i could find, and my best attempt would be if he's a lap dog, when he's on your lap or next to you on the couch and is occupied witha toy, and I'd do it slowly. If he reacts i'd let him check out the rag, put it on other parts of his body where there is no hurt, so he doesnt think its the rag that hurting him, and go from there. barring any other advice from folks on here, I'd just call the vet back and ask for further help |
