shepherd puppy quit eatting and drinking

hi, my name is jesse. i kave an anatolian shepherd. he is 3 months old. when i got him, he had an uti. i took him to the vet and got antibotics. that was 30 days ago. now he has quit drinking and eatting. i have been feeding him with an syringe. when i took him to the vet he was peeing blood. now he can't pee at all. i have been giving him cranberry and cream or can milk. i was worndering if anybody out there would have any home remedy that i could try. he just quit eatting yesterday.i have been feeding him soft food ever since i've had him. that is what the vet said to do. i don't know this bred of dog. this is my first. i raise chihuahua's and poodles. this is my first stock dog. the dogs name is wylie. the protector. i have the pup back on the antibotics, but they don't seem to be helping like they did before. this time is different because he won't eat. i am stumped. the vet said it was a uti relapse. hope some one can give me some good advice. thanks in advance........jesse

Bring your puppy to a Vet

This sounds very serious. I would bring the puppy in for another Vet visit right away.

that does sound very serious! I don't think there are any "at home" remedies for you pup. Your vet should know exactly what to do if all he's reccomended hasn't helped yet. And I would do it RIGHT NOW.

about 40 miles away. do ya'll think that i am rushing the meds. i might need to let them work for atleast 24 hours. i just want him well now. i didn't know that these sheps were so sensitive. i live in the country and he has 7 acres to roam. that is the plan when he gets older. i have a poultry ranch and i got him to watch my flocks and to herd my ducks and guineas.

UTI : Cannot urinate

If your puppy cannot urinate at all, I would be very concerned and try to get him in to see the vet.
I wish I had a cure, sorry

Hello and welcome to GP!
Sorry to hear your pup isn't feeling well. I'm surprised that your vet wasn't more alarmed then he was being that your dog is just a pup and he's not eating or drinking. The eating part isn't of a concern as much as the drinking.

The antibiotics that you are giving him now, are they left over for the last UTI? Did you finish the full course of antibiotics?

My dogs never had a UTI but I had a cat that had them. My vet would do a culture of the infection so he could figure out exactly which antibiotic would help kill the infection.

As for cranberry juice, I know for humans it only help to prevent UTIs, not cure them.

Keep us posted on how things go.

Just in case: Did the vet xray your puppy for bladder stones? These can cause a UTI.

I'm not sure if 3 month old puppies can get bladder stones but this had been a concern for me regarding my cat. Cats & dogs may be totally different.

I'd at least call the other vet, even though its farther away, explain when and how the first UTI was treated, and explain what you've started now and that you have consulted your 'regular' vet.
When you say "cant" pee, what do you mean? is he trying and nothing comes out? or has he stopped trying?
A young pup generally cannot tolerate no food/water very long, they dont have the fat stores that older dogs have, so you are correct to be VERY concerned.
Talk to the other vet, and if they have no further advice or it does not improve within a few hours, bite the bullet and TAKE HIM IN

giny the cranberry is for the dissolving the crystals that form in the U.T. the vet said that it would help him to pee. he is trying to pee but nothing happens. this is a new round of meds. 10 days worth. i did call the other vet and told him what was going on and what kind of meds and he said to give it three days to work. if nothing by then call him back. i got him to eat some food today, well about 4 o'clock pm. i have been giving him water every hour. about 50cc. he is dribbiling a little. i have some pictures of him but i don't know how to post them.

I'm glad to hear you've gotten advice and that he is trying to eat and drink still.

in the picture area, there some good threads to answer your questions on how to post!
