Going hoarse? Is it possible?
Missie was left home alone from yesterday afternoon to this afternoon (essentially 24 hours, I think), and I came home today to her barking funny. She started barking at me, and all the sudden I realized her bark sounded really funny. Almost like she'd been debarked, but it didn't quite work... It sounds really tiny, and her growl sounds like she's purring (I couldn't help it, I was rolling laughing listening to her
). She's breathing fine, and it doesn't sound like there's something stuck in her throat or anything. It really sounds like she barked so long she went hoarse. Is that possible?! I have no idea how much she could've barked while we were gone, and the neighbors wouldn't know either... I don't want to freak out if she is just hoarse. So should I be concerned? Thanks. ![]() |

Dogs can get tonsillitis and although it's seldom serious it can become a chronic problem, it seems to effect the smaller breeds more than the larger for some reason.
Some of the signs are the dog becoming hoarse, extra saliva, difficulty in swallowing or repeatedly. Some refuse to eat or have a difficult time when eating. The dog does not always present all or any of these signs combined. If it doesn't clear up within 24 hours I'd take her in. jmo |

Smaller breeds... More barking. lol
Thanks Crossfire. Her bark sounds stronger today, and she doesn't have any of those other symptoms (but I'm keeping a close eye now). I'm not sure my vet is open tomorrow, but if she's not better, I'll call for an appointment. Thanks again. Cross your paws it's nothing serious! |
