Itchy, itchy, itchy!

Just over the past few days, Winston has been chewing on his rear right leg and also a bit on his front paws.

He's on Merrick dry food, which is human-grade, so I feel like it's not food allergies... any advice on narrowing it down (or stopping it)?

We gave him a bath last night and he's still scratching away.

Human grade doesnt mean he cant be allergic to it! People eat people grade stuff and they are also allergic! What variety of the food is he on.

LOL, good point.

He's eating Merrick Puppy Plate. He's been eating it for about three weeks and has just over the past few days started being really itchy.

Hmm. I should probably wash all of his towels.

And now that I think about it, he might have ant bites. When I take him outside at work, he loves to jump right into the flower beds and go after the same stuff the ants are after... Hmm.

Do you mean fleas, ticks, etc.? He's on Advantix.

It seems to be better. I was thinking -- he went to this doggie-daycare place on Saturday. It's state-of-the-art, meaning they wash down the playing surface with some chemical that breaks down and sanitizes dog waste. Winston, of course, spent the whole time huddled in the corner to get away from the scaaaary chihuahuas. So maybe the chemical is what did it.

Thanks for the suggestions, all!

That's probably a solid idea even if he's not itchy right now -- might as well be nice to his skin before it becomes a problem again! Thanks!

If it was the dog food I would think he would start itching sooner. The chemicals may be the problem. I'd give him a good bath. I'd use Oatmeal shampoo because oatmeal is good for irritated and dry/itchy skin.
Also there is a product called Anti-Itch you can get that helps relieve itching.

You should probably call the dog daycare and ask if any dog has had a reaction to their chemical like yours. It could be that they didn't wash it off in the spot he went to and got some on him. If it is corrosive you will want to wash him throroughly immediatly.

Find out what chemical's they are useing to spray that area, then ask your Vet. about it or call one of the universities and ask to speak to someone in the chemistry lab (or bio-lab) and see if they can tell you how toxic it really is. I would be very worried about this.
