Dead Bunny's
I got a call today on my way home from work from Kino's Daddy work Warning me of dead bunnys in the back yard.
He told me they didnt look like they were attacked and that hes worried about some sort of diseased bunnys running around. I agreed, cuz before Kino got fixed hed often run free in the back yard and I wouldnt want him to catch anything, and Shredder eats small animals... Well I got home, went out back to see what he was talking about. And hes right they do not look like they were Killed..they died... So like Kino's Daddy I thought about diseases. But then I was looking around and saw a ton of poisonus things around. Oil and Antifreeze were the most prevelant. (Kino has been taught very well to stay out of these things, they are very secluded from where he plays also so please dont yell at me for that). The I also saw fiberglass shavings...(we do a ton of car work, engin work, body work, etc) So I guess my point is should I just assume the bunnys died from the liquids or the fiberglass or should we contact Animal Controle about possible diseased animals?? |

I knew that was going to come up...most everything is in the garage- not out in the yard, some of the fiberglass is in the yard though.
but yes Id like to, and ive attempted it, but the boys keep making a bigger mess, at a rate much faster then I can keep up. Im hoping with the bunnys theyll see what they are doing. All the oil and antifreeze are in containers, just need to be taken some place, but they cant be 100% leakproof. The fiberglass only happened yesterday, and as we speak bro in law is out there cleaning it up. Unfortunatly we almost always have the garage open and it would be easy for bunnys to get in their. |

Maybe try getting a sturdy shelf to put in your garage, and put all the poisons on it... That wouldn't keep EVERYTHING out of it, but it'd make it safer and there would be a lessenned chance of Kino, or other neighborhood dogs & cats, getting into it.

We have the same problem, my brother does all our repairs on our cars and it gets to be a really mess, he just replaced the engine in my sisters grand prex and had anti-freeze, oil, gas, all over the drive way. If you have it in containers then I really wouldn’t worry about it, the bunnies might have gotten into it so I would replace the containers as soon as possible but really, if it’s all in containers then it’s safe.

well, personally i wouldnt rely on kino just "not" going into the garage because of noises. its gotta be quiet at some point, and dogs are curious beasts.
that being said, i wouldnt rely on ingestion of a toxin - rabbits can carry some pretty nasty things, and i would get them checked out to be safe. E. cuniculi is one major concern. |

Fireworksinjuly,
I'll not give you a hard time..Your a good girl .. But, about 5 years ago a man working at the shop left antifreeze out and Prinz Kaleb my first golden got into it..And he did die from it.. A gruesome death..Needless to say when I found out after Prinz died that it was he that left it out I was furious.. My daughter would goto the shop and visit her dad and this Idiot wasn't responsible enough to keep it put up. She could have gotten in it.. Hes no longer here.. Words I used weren't in the book..But, you should have them to make sure none has gotten on the ground.. Or any where any animal can get to it..And it may be a good idea to keep the shop shut up when no one is working.. I think it would be a good idea to have them test the animals just to be sure... Then you'd know for sure.. |

I would get rid of antifreeze pronto. You should be able to take it somewhere where they'll handle it for you. It's too dangerous to risk, even if in containers. Also, you might call some wild animal agency and have them pick up one of the rabbits and do an autopsy to find out what killed them. It could be some horrible disease that they'd want to know about. Good luck.

yup, bro in law did that today...
I know how bad it is, but some times I get so fed up with being the only one that takes care of things around here that I have started to slack off a bit, especually cuz its usually not even my mess...If it were mine it would be goen right away, but most of it is from people who dont even live here, and I just get so frustrated....After the bunnys bro in law realized this too and helped me out today... We will call tomarrow. They have a message saying they closed at 4 and not to call the police unless its an emergancy, I would call but theyd probably just get an attitude with me like last time... |

I do agree with Lil Paws and Carrie. There are too many 'what ifs'. The safest and smartest thing, I believe, is to contact animal control and have them pick up the bunnies. ANd clean up any other toxic wastes about the yard and the garage, just to be safe. Please do let us know the outcome about the bunnies, whatever you decide.

ug I hate people some days...
so bro in law and friend were cleaning up the toxic stuff-which is good...and in the process disposed of the bunnies and unfortunatly not in a very good way... they threw them over the fence....into a company that is behind us that makes concrete vaults.... so 1 they are probably laying in the middle of the work area... and 2 its trespassing if we try and retrieve them... 3 well never know unless more die, which I was hopeing to avoid... ug some people can be so stupid some times.... ![]() |
