Dog swollen breasts

My dog is ten months old and she was in heat in May but I have noticed that her breasts are swollen and she she hasn't been eating. Also her temperament has changed she's very clingy. I think these might be signs of pregnancy but I don't see how she could get pregnant because she's never been alone with a male dog. So is there any other explanation for these symptoms?

she could be having a phantom pregnancy, as she would show all the same signs, you could take her to the vets and get her checked he'll be able to tell you.

I would have her checked out by the Vet. right away. Some dogs get mammary tumors which cause swelling. I hope this isn't the case. It could be just a flase pregnancy

Some dogs experiencing a false pregnancy are also at higher risk for pyometria, a deadly uterine infection. Note the section I've put into bold. If your girl has these symptoms she needs to see the vet immediately.

The following from http://ks.essortment.com/problemscanine_rfea.htm
Quote:
Pyometria is a uterine infection that turns deadly if left untreated and can still be fatal with proper medical intervention. This infection can of course only occur in unsprayed females since it involves the inside of the uterus itself. Pyometria can occur after or during a heat cycle, as a result of a retained puppy or placenta after having given birth or from the use of non-sterile whelping instruments. The uterus literally fills with pus and in some cases actually ruptures. The symptoms may include a foul smelling, thick and/or bloody vaginal discharge, and distinct lack of appetite, lethargy, depression, vomiting, and diarrhea as well as an elevated temperature. The best course of action in cases of pyometria is to immediately spay the dog and place on antibiotics.

A change in their boobies is VERY common for their first heat. My aussie did it, the aussie I had as a kid as well, my mom's ridgeback did it....If you are worried take her to the vet...but I wouldnt be too concerned.

Just my opinion here but if she was in season in May the odds aren't as great for pyo as they would be if she had just come out a week or so ago but a very good chance of a nasty UTI along with false pregnacy.

Bottom line though, no matter what the cause if she isn't acting normally and isn't eating she needs to be seen by a vet. jmo
