Anal Glands
I light of some recent posts on Global Paw I thought I should ask the following question. When does one know if a dogs anal glands should be voided? I've read that a dog draggin' their butt on the ground is a sign. I for one do not want to pop Charlies anal glands. He's only three months and I forgot to ask the vet about it when I went last week. Sometimes after he takes a dump he drags his butt on the ground. I thought he was just being nice and cleaning his butt b4 he went in the house.
Are there any other signs I should look for other than the butt scoot. |

Dragging their bum can mean anal glands or worms (or some dogs just do it for no reason). I presonally wouldn't try to express anal glands yourself. You can rupture them and cause infection. Most dogs empty them when they poo. Ask your vet to check them out and let him know that your dog's been dragginf his bum.
