Thanks! She IS hard to photograph because of her "blackness". I usually have to do some tweaking with the photo editor. LOL
Another idea, you can look for Pug meetup groups at meetup.com. Then maybe you can meet and hang with some Pugs before making a choice! :-)

Also wondering if I was to show pugs and wanted to breed my girl do pugs have problems with pregancy/delivery because of their wide flat faces? Even if I never breed I am interested to know.

it depends what kind of energectic dog you want small toy dogs though small require not alot not a little but in between exercise if you dont they will tear up everything. If you want a guard dog, and a very loyal dog you can get a german sheoherd verry protice of their fmily and loyal but if you dont want to exercise these kind of dog daily becuse they require alot of exercise but if you want a couch potatoe i heard geryhounds are. If you want a dog to cooparate with a ca get a puppy of a adult dogs who can be with other animals and all breeds can cooparate with other animals ALL breeds if trained as a pup and also dont get a breed that may be agressive with kids.

That's not dependant on size of the dog. Any bored, unexercised dog "will tear up everything". A German Shepard, lovely as they are, would not be my first choice for an apartment dweller. Would definately tear up everything a lot faster!

Yes they do, they have problem with their pregnancies and whelping.

Hey Apartment Pouch!

I'm a little bit confused as to what kind of dog you're looking for. While conformation is fun and all, it's very competitive and requires a lot of studying not only the standard, but the judge's preferance, dog's pedigree, your fellow exhibitioners, and even what kind of hairspray works best!

I do agree, however, that the sport of conformation is thrilling and very rewarding. My suggestion to you is that if you're serious about taking up this sport, go to the Pug Club of America and make note of local breeders. Proceed to an upcoming Pug specialty or any ol' all-breed dog show, and look for these breeders. A few minutes *after* the Pugs have been shown, walk up to these breeders and introduce yourself. Impress onto them that you are an aspiring breeder, and would like for them to help you get started. Always be polite and courteous. By the time you leave the show, you should have a lifelong mentor who will help you throughout your show career and will, undoubtedly, supply you with a fabulous show prospect Pug puppy.

However, if you're only looking for a pet Pug, I highly encourage you to adopt a senior. Seniors have so much to offer and I believe it is not rare for a Pug to live well into its 16's. Many people consider 5-7 year olds "too old", and it is not uncommon for the shallow-minded to dump these precious pups into a shelter. If you adopt these senior beauties, I guarantee you the rewards will be ten-fold. Good Luck on the pup search

There is a lot of info on this site about every breed you can imagine. In the descriptions they list the best living arrangements for each dog. They are usually pretty accurate, but after you narrow it down I would do a bit more research

Here is there list of apartment friendly dogs

Hope this helps.

Greenleaf- I'm confused too. I'm not sure what I want yet! That is why I am still investigating all my options. I would love to show again. I showed labs just a little and it was pretty fun. I would love to start showing again. However I know that it would take some work and a little extra money. We will just have to see what happens. I enjoy doing a lot of homework on my projects. This decision will not be made without much investigation and education.

Thanks to everyone else for all the good ideas and suggestions!! This is such a great forum. I am really enjoying hearing everyone's ideas.

Mulroony ~ I was curious so I took a look at that link describing the breeds and wonder where that got the info for the Bulldog? Some of it is correct but there is a ton wrong there.

No offense to the owner of the bully pictured but I hope their not featuring that one as "standard." I suppose its like anything though, if your looking for a breed you should do your own homework then take everything you've learned and decide what is right and what isn't.

Hi Everyone!

Well everyone, no dogs allowed at the apartment I am at right now. I could have sworn I put down a pet deposit, not a cat deposit. *Shrug* Oh, well! I will have a little longer to figure out what exactly I'm doing. In the mean time I will enjoy my other animals.

Yeah, they are a good source of general information on most any breed you will find but the info is off on a lot of them. Most of the pictures are just from proud owners, not always good examples of the breed. They list Lhasas as a medium shedding dog. The only dogs I have seen that leave less hair around then my lhasa are hairless
