Hello~
Why would a Dog refuse to eat all of a sudden? My Dog is 6 yrs. old and suddenly will not eat. He won't even take a TREAT from me! He had diarrhea for 2-3 days, and I had to wash him several times. Now he's not going at all- (He pees but that's it) In six years this dog has NEVER refused a treat. He'll dance for a treat but then just stare at me when I give it to him. I am absolutely scared to death- I'm guessing that something is very wrong. What do you think it COULD be? I've tried searching but my computer is running unusually slow. Thank you, Dawnna PS Great looking forum |

Can anyone actually answer my Question?
Quote:
~~~ * If anyone has experience to share, I'd like to hear it. * Is surgery the only way? * Typical prognosis? * What is done in a less severe case? * (IS there such a thing as "less severe" with an intestinal blockage?) * How is recovery time? ~~~ He's at a clinic right now. I was told, "We're booked all day, so a Doctor will see him in between patients when he gets a chance" So now, All I can do is wait. Again, if someone would like to answer my question, I'd appreciate it. I'll be sitting here trying not to go out of my mind with worry. Dawnna |
* Is surgery the only way? * Typical prognosis? * What is done in a less severe case? * (IS there such a thing as "less severe" with an intestinal blockage?) * How is recovery time? First yes, it sounds like an intestinal blockage. They can do exploratory surgery through an endoscope and if they are lucky find the blockage in the esophagus or upper intestines and be able to grab it with pinchers. More often than not it is lodged where they only way to get it out is through surgery. Prognosis is good as long as to much tissue hasn't died in the intestinal tract. If the stomach has turned they will usually put it back into proper location and staple to hold in place. Recovery time is good depending on location of blockage and damage done. Much like after a spay or neuter, keep dog calm, etc. Good luck, I hope your pup makes it through ok. |
Hope your pup is okay; sounds like a blockage to me.
Hope your dog gets better soon!
Please keep us updated with your dog's status. Everyone seems to think it's an internal blockage, but it could just be from a toothache, tonsilitis (sp?), depression or another illness. Since he also had diarhea, it's probably some sort of illness. |
I thought it was weird that He went from diarrhea to nothing at all.
I REALLY appreciate the information & the well wishes. I'm feeling absolutely sick right now. It's going to be a LONG day. I'll let you guys know what I hear as soon as I hear it. By the way, His name is Luke- He's a Beautiful American Eskimo Dog. No one believes me when I say he's 6 years old- they always think I must've meant 6 months old. I hope this experience doesn't change him. Dawnna |
It's been 2 hours
Quote:
He started burying his food instead of eating it after he spent a day at Doggy Day Care... I thought he may have caught something there, so I initially treated him with antibiotic mixed with Chicken baby food. I've been getting him to drink by adding a dish of Peppermint Tea with Honey to help settle his tummy. I've also given him Simethicone for bloating. If anything sounds familiar to anyone and you have a similar experience to share- I'd like to hear it. It's been 2&½ hours with no word...I think I'll call at the 4 hour mark. Dawnna |
I hope your dog makes it through okay. I think it's an illness as well because diarrea usually means something's wrong with his stomach or intestines.
Lets just hope it's something that can be treated right away and that he'll recovery very quickly after treatment. ![]() |
I just brought Luke home. The vet said that she fed him
and he ate two meals. I was SHOCKED! She told me that he buried the food before he ate it- but he did eat it. ~~~ She checked his colon and said everything looks normal. Teeth & throat look fine, "He's happy and energetic" She thinks that his problem is anxiety related. No advice on that was offered. ~~~ He's been burying his food since he spent ONE DAY in Doggy Day Care. My dogs don't NEED to be in Day Care, but I thought it would be nice for them to get some socialization with other dogs and people. I was trying to improve the lives of my dogs, but I think I just freaked them out. Day Care people told me he had a GREAT time- they even posted his picture on their website. Just now he took a Milkbone from the Drive-through pharmacy lady! Basically- His problem is Mental...so no more Day Care for him! (No offense to the wonderful people at this facility!!!)
