Ear mites

I was wondering about the medicine to buy at the pet store to clean dog's ears, is it nessary to buy for prevention of ear mites?

and is there any dangour of using them before checking over with the vet?

I use a holistic ear wash for Magic. My vet says that her ears are so squeeky clean that he can almost see clear through. I wouldn't use that stuff from the store for ear mites it may contain something that isn't good for your dog (thinking of the Hartz problem with their flea and tick remedy) Check your dogs ears every time you groom him and if he shows redness or black chunks of wax in his ears bring him into the vet and have the vet give you something for the mites.

my chi currenly scratches her ear alot, however i checked her ear and did not see any abnormal symptoms (clean pink skin)

I am planing to buy some ear wash for her and if that doesnt help with the scratching, i am going to take her to the vet.

but how long does it take, if the ear cleaner works? should i wait for a week and see? or 1, 2 days?

If she is still scratching a day or two after you use the ear cleaner I'd say it didn't work. Take her in and have him check the ear canal. It may not be mites. They will scratch if there is an infection in the canal too. I'd be safe and have her checked as soon as you can.
