Neutered Dog

My baby (Chocolate Lab) got neutered yesterday. I am being really careful on not letting him play or jump around. The vet recommended no playing or jumping for about 5 days. Today he has been sleeping a lot.

I was just wondering if anybody has any advice on how to take care of him after his surgery, I am following the vets recommendations but I thought I would ask you guys since I am pretty sure you have gone through this before.

Thank You

When my male dogs were neutered I just let them set the pace of their daily lives till they felt better. I didn't allow stairs or jumping on the furniture because I didn't want any of the stitches to rupture. Let him sleep as much as he wants and give him his normal meals at the normal times, if he eats, fine, if he doesn't want to that's ok too. Check the area of surgery daily to be sure there is no infection (redness or swelling) if you do see any signs of it call the vet right away. They usually take about two to three days to want to go back to their normal activities but till the stitches are out no romping or rough play.

I just had a six month old pug spayed on Tuesday.. similar deal, but getting her to slow down is next to impossible. The next morning, she acted no differently than she ever did. Silly pug. That's all I've done though with animals I've had spayed/neutered... TRIED to keep them quiet, and keep them clean.. no romps in the dirt, no baths, until it's healed.

No I didn't use the E collar. I just kept him where I could see him. After a couple of days he stopped being interested in it and left it alone. I did keep it clean for him so he didn't have to himself. (I think he didn't like the taste of the soap)
